Default Good app for long audio programs?

Please Login to Remove!

I posted this in another section of the forum, but it didn't get an answer.

My corporate IT force me to set my Blackberry (Bold 9000) to auto-lock after no more than 30 minutes. If I had been listening to an MP3 audio file, then it will remember the position where I stopped it, unless it does an auto-lock.

After the auto-lock, it will usually forget that it had been playing an audio file at all (sometimes it remembers, many times it doesn't). If I was listening to a three hour long program, then it's a very large annoyance and time-waster to figure out where I left off previously.

Does anyone have a recommendation to work around this? The BB Podcast app does a good job of remembering its playback position, but I haven't found a way to take an audio file and have the Podcast app play it (the Podcast app only plays programs that it has downloaded as podcasts).

What do people use to listen to audiobooks on the BB?

My recommendation would be to purchase a personal device that is not subject to corporate policies.

I use the BlackBerry app from audible.com to listen to audio books. Works great for me, but a) I purchase the audio books from audible, and b) my BlackBerry isn't set to auto-lock. So I can't really say if that's a good solution for you or not.

Gee, that really helps! That way, I could carry around two devices instead of just one!

And all thanks to some Blackberry application programmers who didn't bother to put in a very basic function into the app they were writing.

Sometimes that's what you have to do. I did it for 8 years.

Does your IT Policy also require memory encryption? If that is the case, it may be that the programmers didn't have a choice.

Yes, my IT policy has encryption somewhere (I think it encrypts when it auto-locks after 30 mins), but that can't be the issue here. The Podcast app has no problem remembering where it was in file that it possesses, it's only the Music app that can't remember.

If the Podcast app could let me play files that I get through methods other than by letting the Podcast app manage the download, then that would be a good solution as well.

Is both the podcasts and music used on the blackberry stored on the device itself or being pulled from the internet?

I figured the podcasts are pulled from the internet and are downloaded on as "as needed" or "as playing" basis? While your music is on your device?

That being said, I theorize that since you have data encryption on, the music files saved on your device are encrypted upon lock (thus losing it's position on the player application), while your Podcasts are on an as needed basis so it will only download the portions it's currently using (like if you watch a YouTube video on your Browser and close it during playback, when you go back to your browser the playback is still there).

Take that with a grain of salt, I'm just guessing and theorizing here.

Cheers,
--Phil
