I had to communicate with someone today on business at the time of the quake. Couldn't make a successful call after several tries, but luckily he had a BlackBerry and we used BBM. Ditto the wife who wanted to make sure I was ok.
Didn't feel the quake. Was in a car at the time on way to late lunch. Learned about it when we went in restaurant.
Interesting, when the cell phone call failed outright, I connected to wifi in the restaurant and tried UMA. We connected twice but once he couldn't hear me and the other time I couldn't hear him. That's when we switched to BBM and gave up trying to use the phone.
Maybe this Sunday/Monday I'll be able to test BlackBerry data service during a hurricane! I'll have UMA on hotel wifi (I hope) if cell towers fail. Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile
We got a nice little shake here in northern NJ and I never lost BB service. We never get anything like what we got here today. But this time my computer monitor was moving almost an inch back and forth, and the water in the fish tank was sloshing all around. Lasted about 7 seconds total.
Apparently it was all that quake centered in Virginia. There is a bedrock formation that runs north up the east coast and that's what transferred the vibrations all the way to Toronto. 7 seconds of "WTH?" and then back to business. Sic Transit Gloria.
