Need recommendations for best type, brand & maximum size for MicroSD card for new T-Mobile Curve 8900.

I'm not too sure but I did see a 16GB for sale on one website and I'm hoping to use that. Buy it with my rebate haha. I would be able to get rid of my ipod at gym since my phone came with pretty good headphones and have a practical L shaped adapter.

SanDisk seems to be a popular manufacturer form Micro SD cards, but I have used a variety of different brands in my BlackBerrys and haven't had any issues. I would avoid buying form e-bay or Craig's Lists, though...I have heard that some sellers at these sites can sell some pretty shady stuff. Stick with retailers that you trust.

As ndub33 says, don't cheap out on the SD card unless you don't care much about the content.

I'm a photographer and have seen data loss many times with non-brand name cards or cards purchased from eBay that were counterfeit. Search photography forums like DPReview for more info. You’ll find an amazing number of posts about data loss due to off-brands or counterfeits.

If all you're using the card for is occasional storage or you have a backup of all your data, you can risk getting a cheap card. Otherwise, go with Sandisk, Lexar, etc.

It’s just not worth it otherwise.

Buying a SanDisk card off Amazon.com has always worked well for me. Always works and prices are pretty good.

I'm thinking about the Sandisc SDHC 8 GB. Been to Walmart recently and they have Sandisc SDHC 4 GB for only $21.00. I think the 8900 can take up to 16 GB of SD card.

Does the Curve 8900 take microSDHC cards as well as microSD cards?

The micro SDHC simply refers to the higher capacity cards.

Buy the largest you are willing to pay for at this time. It looks like you can get an 8GB right now for less than $20 but the 16GB is still around $60 so unless you have an immediate need for larger card, I'd save the bucks (which I have so far) and wait to purchase a larger on when the price drops. Be sure to include shipping costs into total cost to determine what you are paying for it. I've found that on Amazon, anything that says "bulk packaging" is usually less expensive than "retail packaging" and it's the same thing. (I think this is usally on San Disk where I find this.) No need to pay extra for the packaging.

As far as brands, I usually stick with SanDisk or Kingston. Looks like Kingston has just released the 16GB cards so now that they are available from someone other than SanDisk, I would expect to find better prices soon.

Good info to know. SanDisk 16gb cards have been hovering around $56 on Amazon for some time now. Like you said, hopefully we will see that price drop here soon.

Got my 16BG Sandisk for $45.00 from CDW.

I have yet to see a 16 GB microSDHC card. Sandisk has one in their product listing, but you can't buy it. In any case, I think the 8 GB card will be the most bang for the buck.

Amazon.com has had them for months now.

Rifleman mentioned that CDW has them.

And I have seen several people mention buying their 16gb card from BestBuy (expensive though).

Yes, that one is compatible.

I don't mean to keep pushing Amazon.com (I am not affiliated in any way), but Amazon has the 8gb (SanDisk Micro SDHC) card for $12.95 if you want to save a few bucks. Just food for thought.

I have noticed that at the FAQ page that was posted earlier in this thread that the target page merely mentions compatibility for "the 81xx, 83xx, 88xx and 9000 series". The 89xx is NOT there. Not to be nit-picky, but if the target thread doesn't exactly answer the question why is that the default answer people seem to be giving out? I guess for the last months the assumption is that the 89xx somehow falls into this compatibility chart, which is fine, if you like to make assumptions.

I'm about to buy a 16GB card for $34.99, which I think is a great price. Just hoping it will work.

The 4.5 OS will handle a 16gb Micro SD card, regardless of device model.

Yes, that was clear when clicking on the blackberry.com link within the blackberryfaq.com link. My (minor) gripe is merely with blackberryfaq.com page that does not state it the way you just did, but tried to name the series that are compatible, rather than just going by OS version. Anyway...
