Why is it so that I can open attachments received thru email as PDF but when I wanted to download I get warning that this format can not be view from the device..once saved. please advise if there is a back door to it.?

Because you don't have a pdf reader.
pdf's as attachments can be viewed by the email program; but unless you have a pdf reader, they cannot be viewed once saved to the device.

I think Docs to Go may have a PDF reader included. Not free but allows them to be viewed. It's in AppWorld
