Default Memory question

Please Login to Remove!

Hello Everybody,

I just had a question regarding device memory. I checked mine yesterday and noticed I was a digit off from the average post in this post your file free. average seems to be around 20-25? I was sitting at 7xxxxxx so 7 megs? I did a battery pull and upon checking it again it was up to
23xxxxxx. Why did all my memory get zapped like that? What consumes the in device memory on a temporary basis like that? Is there anything I can do to help control this? Or is a battery pull just necessary every so often?

PS with the battery pull, I hope I did it right, the unit was supposed to be on right?

Thanks,

Bryan

It's like rebooting a PC.
Programs leak memory and do not free it up properly.
So a reboot is periodically required!

Is the battery pull the only way to do this successfully? It just feels kind of weird as opposed to using the built in reset button on the pc. How low do you suggest I let the memory go before I do this?

Thanks again!

On the 8310 you can press ALT/CAP/DEL and it will reset he BB and it's a bit less harsh than pulling the battery.
There is no hard and fast correct number. When my 8320 gets below 14-15mb, I restart it.

Ah that is good to know Thanks alot NJ.

One last quick question I know I am such a bother! lol

I did a battery pull for my GF's as it was down to like 3 megs....Hers only went back to 13 after the pull. I updated her OS last night and I know she does not have alot of 3rd party apps of any sort...any reason why hers is staying so low?

Does she have a lot of pictures? If so she should get a media card and move the pictures and ringtones onto the card. There are other things that can be done to free up memory, do a search and you will find lots of ideas.

semi-related:
in another thread on the memory issue someone threw out the comment that emails don't use much at all, should concentrate on the ring tones and pictures etc.

with the addition of html emails does that theory go out the window? has anyone looked at the difference between the text only and the html emails? particularly if one downloads the images a great deal of the time.
