Distorted sound on a 7105t

i bought a 7105t from a coworker for $90.. it had a crack in the case. i changed the case out with a new one from a returned bb. i upgraded the firmware to 4.1 (csl) and its as good as new! one thing though.. i am a dumbass--i did not make a test call on the bb before i bought it. when i talk to my mom on it (the bb was for her), she sounds very loud, and somewhat distorted. it sometimes is distorted, sometimes isn't... any idea on what i could do to make this work right--is it the mic? is it something else?
if its a part i need, let me know, and ill snag it from a recycled bb.
