Default Will ATT Unlock the Bold?

Please Login to Remove!

Will ATT global customer service unlock the bold if you are a current ATT customer? I will be traveling abroad for 6 months and will continue to pay for my ATT service but would like the phone unlocked to use pre-paid sim cards in europe.

Thanks!

As long as your account is in good standing and you have been there 90 days they should if you ask nicely and explain the situation. If you run into any snags see the link in my signature and the good folks are Horizon will have you unlocked in no time and you get a BBF Member discount!

What you're referring to is a stolen piece of RIM internal software which is being illegally distributed.
While Google is useful for many things, I don't recommend that anyone uses it for software piracy.

Those things are ALL scams. The unlock code is a unique number for each BB and no one has cracked the algorithm to find it. Some say there is no algorithm, just a randomly assigned number for each device. Dunno, but there is no free code, unless the carrier (AT&T) gives it to you. Software cracks are a myth.

Like stated above, I HIGHLY advise you to avoid this piece of software. You have no idea what you are getting into.

You should not have a problem getting ATT to unlock the Bold for free. I use an unlocked Rogers Bold but bought a second locked one for a family member. Despite the fact that I was a pretty new ATT customer (<90 days), customer service unlocked it for me once I explained that we needed to use it abroad. The rep was very patient with me (I was nervous in case I screwed something up!) and stayed with me throughout the process. Took about 10 mins, I'm sure it would be less for anyone who's done it before. And it was free! I was really impressed how nice the reps were.

I just bought a bold from craigslist, I don't even have an ATT account, and I called att and they unlocked it. First call, just told them flat out I bought this device, I don't have an att account and I want it unlocked. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You are 100% correct, but sometime a rep answers the phone and they feel like they want to do something nice. I am telling you when I bought this bold of craigslist I was waiting to get home to order the unlock code from horizonwireless but I called ATT on the way home. I knew they wouldn't unlock it unless you are a customer, in good standing and have had the phone for more than 90 days. I told the rep that I bought this phone, and I am not an ATT customer, I also do a lot of travel and use local SIM cards and I would like to get the phone unlocked. She said wait few minutes and she came back ans said are you ready to write down the code. I was shocked, I said let me pull over, and she proceeded providing the code along with the typical unlocking instructions.
When I had a storm, VZW unlocked even though I was a brand new customer. Believe it or not, I had the hardest time with TMO, my current carrier, getting the Curve unlocked. I had to call them back so many time that they actually flagged my account for an investigation. The funny thing, it has been over a year and their investigation is not done yet and they don't know what they are investigating when I call and ask for an update.

it worked!! after reading this thread i thought i'd give it a try before purchasing the code on ebay. first attempt and i was successful. He asked for my ATT number, i told him i didn't have one and i just want an unlock code for the blackberry bold i just purchased from ebay. he asked what carrier will i be using it on and i told him i'm going to bring it to china. he said ok no problem, i read him my imei #, he looked it up and gave me the code. took less than 5 minutes!

thats probably what the people that sell the codes on ebay do. take 5 minutes to call att and make 10-20 bucks
