Hi all !

im making this thread because im planning to buy a new phone and im stuck between the new blackberry curve 8900 or the T-Mobile G1. And i would like you guys to help me by telling me which one would you choose and why....

Well, you are on a BlackBerry forum so the answers may not be unbiased. While the G1 seems to be a nice start for Google, the BB has experience on its side. I personally prefer the candy bar style of PDA with the keyboard always accessible, such as my 8330 Curve. The G1 has the slider keyboard, and reviews say that some of the keys on the right side are slightly hard to get at. I can one-handed type on my Curve if I choose to. I doubt you can on a slider type because the keys are generally much wider apart.

The G1 is going to have a bit larger screen I believe, but the screens on these BB's sure are sharp and clear.

There has also been some discussion about poor battery life for the G1 that I've read. That is probably not such a biggie since there will likely be aftermarket batteries offering improvements in this area, but I throw it out there for you. I just wish Sprint was in line to get the 8900 Curve, but rumor is they're getting the Bold so that'll do just nicely.

I think it comes down to what you mostly use your device for, and whether you prefer the keyboard style of the Curve or the slideout like the G1.

Biggest difference, other than the obvious.

G1: 3G, no UMA.
8900: UMA, no 3G
9000: 3G, no UMA.

I thought about switching away from my blackberry ( I know, I just slapped myself and it will never happen again) to a G1 and no way will leave my Curve. My friend has a G1 and the speed difference in the Edge and 3G is not that noticeable to me, not an expert but have had blackberry's and internet phones for a long time. I would go with the 8900, as soon as they hit the market I am retiring my 8320 for one. Also, the Data plan is horrible for the G1, for 19.99 you get unlimited everything on the blackberry plan, another major reason I did not switch, I use Yahoo messenger a lot and on the G1 it comes out of your text messages unlike the berry.
My humble opinion you will love either one but the 8900 is going to be AWESOME!!!

thanks guys it kinda makes me think a lil bit more because i was crazy CRAZY ! to get the G1 when it came out because of the operating system (which is still awesome) and now that i saw the new curve i amazed because i love my blackberry (best phone i ever had so far) and i was thinking about getting it as soon it came out....and then the G1 hit my head one more time so i was thinking about it..

and Jack i was reading about some of the stuff that u mentioned before (battery and stuff like that) and thats one of the reasons why the curve is making the G1 smoke dust.....

I've had quite a selection of PDA/Smartphones over the years. I've had from the Treo line the 650, 700p, 750, and still own the 800w. I still own the Palm Centro. I used to have an HTC Mogul, which is a slideout keyboard styled phone (hated it...way too buggy and creepy crawly slow). My BB Curve is by far the best smartphone I've owned or operated. My only real complaint, and I've mentioned this is other threads, is the lack of true threaded text messaging; something similar to what Palm has, or even WinMo devices have. Beyond that, my phone is stable, quick, reliable, an email beast, bluetooth and GPS functions flawlessly, speakerphone works very well...in other words, the phone does what it is advertised to do. Of my Palm devices, only my Centro truly does what it is advertised to do, but unfortunately with the older Palm OS on it, it doesn't have GPS capabilities. My Treo 800w, while for a WinMo device is very quick (Palm put hardware 3d graphic accelerator in it) the GPS was advertised as both autonomous and assisted, whereas the fact is at this point in time anyway it is assisted only. Plus, the speakerphone is abysmal, the battery life is mediocre at best, and there is a bug in the call volume when you answer the phone. You have to turn it up each time to get it back to where you set it as default. I haven't had to worry about any of these weaknesses in my Curve. You just cannot go wrong with the newer BlackBerry devices, IMHO.

yeap i feel you man, and thats one of the reasons why when i saw the new blackberry curve, i stopped and i thought about the problems that i had with the one that i have now (NONE !), so thats one of the reasons why i am thinking about getting which is probably a 90% right now, the rest of the 10% is money problems (LOL).

What about the web browsing? I just bought an 8900, and there is some content it cannot access on some pages, and some pages it won't view at all. Does the G1 have full HTML? What does the BB have? I can't quite figure it out.

What can't you access? Are you referring to flash? You might try an alternative browser such as Opera Mini. Between it and the standard BB browswer, I can browse most everything, except flash sites.

The battery problem for the G1 is being worked on by TMO. They are going to give everyone a free upgraded battery. That's what I hear anyway. As for HTML the G1 is full HTML. My wife has it and its fun but she misses her BB so I hope that helps.
