hourglass (Clock) icon keeps showing up
Please Login to Remove!
I just got my replacement bold 9000, loaded the latest OS on it. when I turned it on with the stock theme and icons it was lightening fast. Now whenever I want to switch between apps or tasks the hourglass (Clock) icon appears for a few seconds. How can I fix this? this is super annoying!

How much free memory do you have? Look in Options>Status.

Also, look at the appliations you have running. Close everything except the one you are using and try again.
Also pay attention to what applications are set to run in the background on exit or close. It would be best to turn that off in all applications for the time being, and test each app one at a time. But even better to completely exit or close every app when you are done unless you have one you need to leave running in background and (a) it doesn't cause severe performance issues and (b) doesn't use up your battery too fast.

Also, go to options > memory tell us how much application memory you have. Also, you may want to clear the browser cache, run memory cleaner, do a battery pull, and clear the logs.

A read of the FAQ would turn up this: How do I free up memory on my device? - BlackBerryFAQ
However, I agree with aiharkness, sounds like you have too many apps open and using data/memory.

ok, so if I hold down the blackberry button it shows which apps are running in the background. Right now I have Browser, messages, phone, bbm, home screen, visual voicemail. bugme! running. It seems like i cannot close any of these except Bugme. Is this how it should work?
thanks

Phone, Browser, messages, bbm, home screen, and visual voicemail always run and you can't shut them down. Are you using a 3rd party theme?

Then try one of the stock themes and see if that makes a difference. If you've closed all apps and are still seeing the sluggish behavior, then the theme is probably the answer.

And many 3rd party themes cause problems such as the one you're having. I don't know that's what's causing your problem but wouldn't you like to rule it out?

Ditto. The suggestion to use/try a stock theme is troubleshooting. It is a test. If the device is fine, then you know your problem was the 3rd party theme. You can try another theme at that point, with the new knowldge you have.
