Desktop Manager dying before update or in mid-update!!
Please Login to Remove!
I have not been able to update the software on my bb7520 since I got it. Why?
Because the Blackberry Destop Manager software keeps dying (quiting) in the middle of updates or before I even start. This happened once in the middle of my update -- and wiped out everything on my bb -- corrupted it -- and I had to get a new bb7520.
I removed the Desktop Manager, reloaded it, and it STILL does the same thing.... it reads the existing versions on my bb7520, and then before I can start the update, the Desktop Manager stops by iteself.
I'm scared to do this now because of what happened before when it died during mid-update and left me with a corrupted 7520.
Anyone else have this problem with their Desktop Manager software? I don't know why it's quitting before it finishes the update or even starts the update.
HELP!!!

Application Loader Wizzard
To be more specific it's the Application Loader Wizzard that is just dissapearing (quitting) for no reason after it displays the inventory (with checkboxes) of what software components you want to update.
Sometimes the Application Loader Wizzard quits within seconds of displaying the list of updates --- sometimes it doesn't dissapear/quit for several minutes.
Regardless, I am scared to execute the update for fear that it will stop mid-stream as it did once before and render my 7520 useless.

I have the exact same problem - using Outlook 2003 with the MSN Outlook connector. (MSN Premium)
Nextel said it was a RIM problem. RIM said it was a hardware problem. Got a new 7520 from Nextel - same problem.
Looking for a solution any suggestions? Please help !!!

I am about to quit
... this has become rediculous. What's the point of having one of these if you can never update it or synch it or upgrade it?
If the application loader wizzard is ALWAYS going to quit in the middle. Nothing I have tried has worked. I'm fed up with this piece of sh!t that no one, not NEXTEL, not RIM, seems to be taking responsibility for.

Are you going directly to your PC or through a hub; there are known issues with using a hub.

No... directly to one of two USB ports on the CPU. I've tried both.
I've tried the outlook profile trick.
I've tried other fixes.
I've tried re-installing the DTM
Nothing works. The Applications Loader Wizzard always gets interrupted somehow and closes without warning.

when you uninstall the DTM are you removing it from the registry also? That is very improtant. Also dont install the desktop manager and handheld manager form the cd use the website to install a new copy. I had same issue and once I installed a fresh copy from blackberry havent had a issue since.

How does one remove it from the registry once you've de-installed it? I'll try your suggestion once I can do that.

After you remove the program just make sure you delete the Research In Motion folder located in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHNINE\Software\
Click start-->RUN type 'regedit'

go to run type in regedit and look for anything listed as RIM or Reasearch in Motion and delete it if you do see it

Nope... didn't work. I uninstalled everything, then got rid of all registry entries. Reloaded the DTM software, started up the Application Loader...
...and the Application Loader Wizzard still dissapears at some random time frame after I open it up. Sometimes it disappears with 5 seconds of showing me the update list. Sometimes it takes 3-4 minutes. So I can't risk running it because it may die in the middle like it did the first time.
Should I call RIM or NEXTEL?

Seriously. This is rediculous. Who do I call to trouble-shoot this problem. I'm stuck with a blackberry that will never upgrade because the application loader wizard is always closing on me before I can update or mid-update.
I've also now tried a hard reset. Didn't work.

There is a simple solution to your problem you just have to find it.
Dont panic.
Here is some things to try...
First would you goto a mechanic without your car and expect them to fix it?
What version of desktop manager have you tried. what version of windows and what version of mail client do you sync with?
Disable all startup items, in most versions of windows you can do this simply by clicking on Start.. Run and typing MSCONFIG then click OK and switch to the Startup tab and disable all. then reboot and try again...
Make sure you dont have another vendors sync software installed, Desktop Manager doesnt place nice with other PDA software ;)
Disable power management in the USB root hub properties.
OPen device manager (right click on My computer goto properties and select hardware tab.)
Open the properties for all USB root hub and USB 2.0 root hubs. If there is a power management tab ensure the option to "Turn off this device to save power is disabled"
When you uninstalled Desktop Manager did you also delete all the remaining folders left behind such as:
Program Files\research In Motion
Program Files\Common Files\research in motion and pumatech shared
Documents and settings\<user>\application data\research in motion
?

exhausted everything
My USB ports are "self-powered" so there is no ability to turn on or off power saving. I didn't see this as an option.
Beyond that I am now completely befuddled. I spent two hours online with Nextel doing a series of uninstalls and re-installs.
Yet still my "Application Loader Wizard" just quits soon after I open it. So I cannot update any aspect of my handheld software. The weird thing is that the Intellesynch process works just fine. I can update my addresses, calendar, and do back-up/restore.
But the Application Loader Wizard just quits.
I'm at my wits end with this. What use is my BB if I can never update the handheld software or ad ny new features. I'm really exasperated.

I want to register myself as an offical member of the I Hate Desktop Manager club. This thing always craps out as I try and connect with Outlook. I've tried reinstalling 5 times, I've tried every update I could find and still no luck. Though I think I can get it to transfer other files ok.

7520 sync
OK – I have done everything listed here and my sync still disappears mid way through the sync operation. I am unable to sync anything with my Outlook.
Windows XP / Outlook 2003
I use MSN 9 / premium via Verizon DSL as my ISP with Outlook Connector. I do everything from Outlook 2003 and never open the MSN 9 program.
Could the Outlook connector, which syncs all of my Outlook information to MSN (hotmail) be the problem?
Any help is greatly appreciated…

I've determined that there must be something wrong with my handheld unit, or my setup, but I cannot prove it and therefore cannot get a replacement.
Intellesych works, but not my Application Loader Wizard. I am stuck with my current version of 4.0 software on the 7520 until this gets solved. I am even going so far as to open a trouble ticket with my company.

I had the same problem with a Blackberry 7520.
Is Business Contact Manager installed with your Microsoft Outlook 2003?
If yes, that is the problem.
You should uninstall Business Contact Manager addon and reinstall RIM Desktop Manager.
After that everything should be working fine...

Ok, My company gave me a new laptop.... so I installed everything on the new laptop and ... IT WORKS!!!! Must have been my PC or USB connections on the PC. With the laptop I had no problem getting the Application Loader Wizard to stay up and complete the update.
So, I've updated to the latest handheld software...
Now where's that HTML browser???
