Default Should I Pay a Developer For This?

Please Login to Remove!

We need an application in our company to to manage SMS messages on the BlackBerry. I would like any received SMS messages to do the following:

- Tone and/or Vibrate
- Pop up a message (with snooze option)
- True repeat notification until message is read
- Be able to go into the application and see all received SMS messages in one place (not have to sort through the general mailbox)
- Able to push the application from the BES server to devices and/or download OTA from our internal website
- Other things I can't think of yet

I know WebMessenger's Message Alerts does most of these things, but it is way to cumbersome and difficult to use for most of our BlackBerry community. We only need it for SMS, not email or phone.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know. Would this be something an inexperienced user could create with the BlackBerry Developer Toolkit?

such an application would have some relatively complex logic going on, managing received messages isn't too difficult, displaying them and deleting them etc.

what is a bit more complex is making the application act as a background listener application which spawns a notification when a message is received.

if you've never developed blackberry applications before you'll struggle.

i developed a sofware that handles SMS and forwards them to your outlook-/mail-account, it is freeware and can be downloaded at http://www.bfinet.de/sms2mail/
part of it runs in the background so it would be well capable of being expanded in this way.

small complexity:
- Tone and/or Vibrate
- Pop up a message (with snooze option)
- True repeat notification
- download OTA from our internal website
(pushing an app via BES is not yet implemented correctly by RIM)

more complex:
-Be able to go into the application and see all received SMS messages in one place (not have to sort through the general mailbox)

very complicated:
- Other things I can't think of yet ;)

i don't think that you can get this kind of software for free but we have a pretty good code-base for your ideas, feel free to contact us with further details and we can make an offer. (bbsupport a t bfinet.de)

p.s.
if you ask developers if they want to get paid for their work guess what they answer?

Hi, we are the developers of PocketDay which handles SMS messages with some limitations. You won't be able to do everything you want...

On the BB you have to create your own SMS handler...no problem. Your company will have to open some BB firewall ports for a 3rd party (non-rim) app to do this.

Also on the BB, 3rd party apps CANNOT access the native BB message store for SMS messages. That means that whatever you do with SMS will NOT be reflected in the normal BB messages lists.
