Default Blackberry Handheld OS 5.0

Has there been any rumors on the handheld OS 5.0? Will it be built on a whole new platform? Will RIM continue to use Java for the foreseeable future?

I can't imaging that RIM would abandon Java. That would kill all current 3rd party apps.

It will still be java. 5.0 is being developed now and is in the works. I doubt we'll see any 5.0 stuff until into next year. The big change in 5.0 is rumored to be the browser.

Quick interest for this rumored 5.0 is most likely MIDP3! Also I think that flash lite 3 will also be incorporated for better web implementations. Technically RIM could go back to Cplus code under Java or combine java with flash without affecting current or upcoming apps like SAP mentioned at WES2008.

MIDP3 will be a big step forward in the OS, making the BlackBerry OS feel more like a desktop OS. SAP won't impact me, but I think an upgraded browser (even more than 4.6), coupled with any version of a Flash plugin will make a 3G blackberry a front runner in the mobile-web race.

Let's see, given AT&T's (non)track record on releasing OS 4.5, I'd guess we'll see "info" on 5.0 by Q2 2009, and release by at least Q3 2010.

I'd love to see flash implemented.... make web page viewing less quirky and more PC like... imho...

That's probably more of an issue with Adobe than with RIM. Even the beloved iPhone doesn't support Flash.

I know that 5.0 has that real cool clock future that we've been seeing on the KickStart.

The KickStart has OS 4.6. Also, the Bold has OS 4.6. The Thunder has OS 4.7. No screenshots for OS 5.0 have leaked out yet that I'm aware of.
