Using BIS v2 with an IMAP account - tip
Please Login to Remove!
Hi all --
I thought I'd post a tip regarding e-mail reconciliation using an IMAP account and BIS v.2. When new messages arrive in my IMAP inbox they are obviously marked as "unread", however, since upgrading to BIS v2, as soon as those messages were pushed to the handheld, they would be marked as "read" in my IMAP inbox, even though they hadn't been read either on my e-mail client or on the handheld. Annoying.
However, it appears that when you configure a new e-mail address using BIS, if it can automatically detect the server settings, BIS will default to POP mailbox behaviour, and you are unable to choose IMAP. This default means that messages will be marked as read in the IMAP inbox even though they have not been read, as BIS thinks it's a POP inbox.
THE TRICK - is to enter your password INCORRECTLY when you set up a new email account. This forces BIS to take you to a new screen which asks you more questions about your e-mail service, including whether it's POP or IMAP. Select IMAP and it will not mark new messages as read when they are pushed to the handheld!! (Don't forget to enter your password correctly in this second screen, of course).
Hope this helps any of you who, like me, were pulling their hair out trying to figure this out...!
Best,
Simon
