Default Unable to register handset with BIS

Please Login to Remove!

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but for the last few days we have been unable to register a Pearl 8120 with O2 UK. Apparently any PIN that begins with 254 (and another one which I don't know about) will not register on BIS. O2 say the problem isn't to do with their network and they are now waiting on RIM to respond. I was also told it only affects Pearl handsets but not sure if this is correct.

We have tried the other options, i.e. advanced options > host routing table but still does not work. The mail setup icon doesn't appear on the handset either.

Hi & welcome to BBF.

I have never come across this problem before but if the phone cannot be registered then it is unlikely to receive service books. It is the service books that will give you the browser icon and the email settings icon.

Hopefully the matter will be sorted asap but if not maybe request a replacement device.

Hello and thanks.

We have been waiting since Monday when we first tried to register it, unfortunately the person who the phone is for has gone on holiday for 2 weeks (hoping they would be using their new Blackberry) so even if we had a new handset it wouldn't help.

If o2 is in contact with RIM regarding the issue. Then hopefully it will be sorted by the time they return. Obviously it is frustrating though.

It would be interesting to see if anyone else has encountered this problem.

The problem is they took the Blackberry with them as we were told on Monday by O2 it should be resolved within 24 hours. I'm on the phone to O2 customer services now to see if any update.

Still not working, O2 said the only feedback is that there will be an update posted on their system tomorrow and have no other information.

There isn't anywhere I'm afraid. The only way to find out anything is to call customer services on 0800 9777337 and ask them to ask Blackberry support. You can quote ref. 4207521 and refer to Blackberry Ask.

FYI, my handset was able to register yesterday morning... Issue may now be resolved.
