IS anyone else having problems playing .avi files on the TOUR?
i moved, deleted, re-moved into my blackberry many times and battery pulled my BB and it still won't play.
Is this just me?
Thank You

Sounds like they are not in the correct format to work on the BlackBerry. You should be able to convert them using Desktop Manager/Media Manager.

How do I convert video using Roxio - BlackBerryFAQ

Pictures are missing, but the process is correct, except you need a newer version of Desktop Manager, like 4.7 or 5.0.

Maybe there's a way to convert the .avi to .mp4? Sorry I'm not a Mac user.

Some files, while in an acceptable format, are encoded using a non-supported codec and will not play. You can mess around with the file in QuickTime, trying to export it in different formats, but if the original encoding was done on a bad codec it will probably never work.

you can also try a software similar to GSpot to see the codecs used on the file that works and the file tha doesn't work. this can help figure out the problem

Default Blame it on the codec, not the container!

AVI, MP4, MKV, etc., are containers for audio/video streams.
Simply put, think of those as a container for your food; Dish, Bowl, Tupperware, paper carton, Plastic bag, etc.

DivX, XviD, H264/AVC, etc., are the video codecs (video compressors,) which we will now compare it to the preparation for the food; baked, broiled, deep fried, stir fried, chewed, puked, pooped, etc.

Finally, you are Blackberry Tour 9630 and I am cooking up very juicy rib-eye steak(video stream) for you.

However being such a spoiled brat as you are, you will only eat out of a dish or a bowl and you will only eat your food if it's baked, broiled, deep fried or stir fried.

That means, you will not eat the steak if it's chewed, puked or pooped even if I serve it up to you in a nice dish or bowl. Also, no matter how perfect I broiled the steak, you won't eat it if it's served in a Walmart plastic bag.

To sum it up, AVI and MP4 are a dish and a bowl, and you have to cook it the way Blackberry could digest.

Blackberry Codec Support
Video format support: MPEG4 H.263, MPEG4 Part 2 Simple Profile, H.264 (encoding and decoding 30fps), WMV

Audio format support: MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, WMA ProPlus

I use VIO Video converter (Freeware). Just select the original file and optimize it for the BBCurve format.

vio.thepiratebay.org

Im not sure if it works with a MAC but its worth a shot.
