Thanks, zerog.

I knew I didn't need VZ Nav. I did Start GPS Nav and it showed an icon down at the bottom with a 10 next to it. I guess that means it was seeing 10 satellites. I just didn't see anywhere (including in the Help) that told me what that meant.

With my Garmin, it tells me how many satellites it can see AND how many it has a lock on. I wonder that BB Maps is actually telling me.

I just thought I would throw my 2cents in. I didnt know anything about Verizon opening up the GPS for BBMaps until just now. I went into my options and changed it from 911 only to Location on (which might help those who cannot get this to work) and now everything seems to be working great!!

Man, I love BBF!! Thanks everyone

Good question. BB Maps has the option to enable Geotagging, which I have turned on. The online help in BB Maps tells you have to turn on Geotagging and it tells you how to view the info for a picture that was taken with geotagging. But, the info given on the help for the Pictures application does not match my phone. I took a picture while I had geotagging enabled and BB Maps running with a fix on my position, and the Pictures app Menu does not give me any option to view the picture location on a map (like the help says it should).

Stuart...where to you see an option in BB Maps to turn on Geotagging...I have no such option in BB Maps. There is a Geotagging option in the Camera options screen. Enabling that

Also don't see any online help for BB Maps...do you mean on RIM's site, or on the BB?

Thanks!

I tried mine today for the first time. I am across the country from where I live, I opened BB Maps, found satellites and my location in seconds. This is GREAT!

Sorry, my bad. The online help for BB Maps tells you how to turn on Geotagging, but you have to actually do it in the Camera app. By online help, I mean, in BB Maps, if you do Menu/Help.

Default GPS With Verizon - 8830 w/ 4.2

All,
Please forgive a stupid question from an old newbie. Actually, please forgive several questions:

Can I get step-by-step instructions on how to get GPS working? Not 'click here then click there', but something that tells me what needs to be done with an idea of how to do it.

Do I need to upgrade my OS? Do I get this from VZW or RIM?

Is there anything 'special' that needs to be done?

Thanks,
Grampa

Upgrade to OS 4.5 (available from dts.vzw.com then "Download Software") then open Blackberry Maps, click "Start GPS Navigation" and it's now running GPS tracking. You might have to go into options -> location based services and "Enable", if not done so already.
