Blackberry 4.0 provides a new feature where if you send from your Outlook account it appears on your Blackberry as though it was sent from you handheld. I am getting ready to do an inplace upgrade from 3.6 to 4.0 for 1000 users and want to know if anyone knows how to turn this off globally on the server.
When we try to change it on the handheld we get errors saying that it is an external change and all changes will be lost. Has anyone run into this?

Try disabling contet protection this solved it for me

Try looking at your folder redirection settings-globally or on your unit. If the sent items folder is checked all your desktop sent items will be displayed on your device.

that's not the concern here. when looking at it from the handheld, it's throwing up an error when trying to save the changes (to remove the Sent Items redirection).

That is right. RIM has not been forthcoming with a reason as to why we are getting this error but it runs across different handheld models. I just need to know if we can set it globally or if anyone can tell us how to correct the error we get when we try to change it on the handheld. Don't want to be flooded with help desk calls.

Has anyone seen this error when trying to change the folder redirection to not include sent items?

Error: Settings are updated externally. Changes will be lost and the viewer closed.

I have. Wipe and reactivate usually fixes it. If not, wipe, remove/readd user to the BES, reactivate. And verify their local settings are compliant with BES suggested configuration. Might want to remove Desktop Manager from their machine if its installed, as well.

Wow Ok. Well I have 2500 users. That would be an undertaking. I am wondering if there is a policy or something that could be causing users not to be able to save their configurations.

4.1 handheld OS has an option to hide Sent. Presumably that can be policied in 4.1 BES but we don't have that BES version yet.
