Returning it is up to you (if you think you can get used to the keyboard). You can get tasks and notes back with the OS upgrade. But that's more than likely why they're not loaded.

Fine i will try. But if not ill have to get used to it. Ive listed the options appls result which shows OS 4.5 only. But how come NOTES isnt there ? So i can still download the updater from our forum site here and update my BB ? But is there any chance that i wont be able to use all the standard features because its a french unit ? If yes then theres no point holding onto this unit.

Can you just inform me on this point ? thanks

You can use it, but the keyboard mapping will be different. Nothing else. Continue beyond that point in the OS upgrade and it will give you the list of what to add/remove during the installation.

If you're concerned about it, contact the seller and ask for a refund.

Ok Im going to try to ask him to send me a qwerty keyboard unit.

About the second element id like to ask you which is the latest OS update here on our site that will work with this phone and give me NOTES and TASKS.

There seem to be nearly 6 or more update threads in the stickys and i just want to be sure.

Thanks

The one I posted above is the latest. You can only use the OS for the 8310. Not the 8300, 8320, 8330, 8350 etc.

Also i noticed that of the meagre 64 mb ram that the device has i think the OS and the core applications themselves take up 40 to 50 mb ? So we are left with just 10 mb or so to install 3rd party apps ? Or have i got it wrong ?

It depends on what you have on the device. The OS does take up a good amount of room, but you should have a good 20-25 Mb left after the OS install.

Hi JS,

Just finished the updater. Everything went fine and smooth and the phone is now updated and i have my NOTES and TASKS apps loaded.

20 - 25 mb should be good enough. Just for some basic 3rd party apps that i can load on.

Now my only next hurdle is to migrate my data from my palm desktop to the BB. Will do it first tomorrow morning and keep you posted.

Thank you for helping me out a lot.

Hi,

Got my replacement with the qwerty keyboard.

This fone shows core applications etc as 4.2. I guess the OS is just 4.2. No Video function. I wanted to update using the same updater which i used for my previous handset. It worked perfectly and updated that phone. But when i tried the same updater on this phone it connected to the net i guess did the analysis thing and says "Your phone already has the latest software" And then it allows to sign up for newsletters if neccesary and then finish is the only option.

What do i do ? Does this mean i cant update this phone ?

Please help me asap as ill have to send the phone back immediately for a refund.

Thanks...

Is this an 8310? What model phone are you currently using?

Hi JS,

Yes its an 8310. Options > About > Shows Blackberry 8310, Smartphone (edge) v 4.2.2.184. Even core applications list shows all to be 4.2 something.

What can this be ? It also shows Vodafone when it boots up but is unlocked gsm. In fact even the previous one which successfully updated showed TMobile, but it OS updated just fine.

Please let me know what i should do ? Thanks a lot.

No. Not if you delete the Vendor.xml file as it says in the directions. Just follow the steps exactly as they're written and you'll be alright.

Also should i uninstall my BB dektop software which i installed with the prior AZERTY phone. Its still on my PC and it was even synced once with the prior phone. Is that remembering some setting etc on the PC that the previous phone was updated and thereby reporting the new phone is also up-to-date ?

Thanks

It shouldn't be, but it's not going to hurt to remove and start over.

Based on what you told me, i have completely uninstalled BB Desktop Manager and Device Updater (yes the old updater seemed to be sitting in programs still) and am now downloading the updater which you pointed me to. 90% completed. Do i need to reinstall the Desktop Manager afresh on the PC to run the device software updater that im downloading ?
