Default 8330 not recognized on pc

Please Login to Remove!

i did a windows install on my sisters pc. i have files i use for updates to save on time of downloading everything. but her pc wouldn't recognize my phone.

now my own pc won't recognize my phone. not even the battery charge icon comes on. once my battery goes dead. i be without a phone. PERMANENTLY.

wall charger don't work either. so basically the phone got fried somehow.

anyone have any suggestions i might try??? short of replacing the phone!!!

Sounds to me like you have a damaged USB port. You can get a charging dock, but this won't help you back up your device. You might be able to find a local cellphone repair shop to get the port replaced, I believe most people say it's around $50 to have this done.

i'm thinking the same thing. except that the screen does light up. and the analog clock pops up. when it's plugged in. it just don't get no battery charging icon. or pc recognition.

i'm hoping for a software glitch. but i have no way to wipe it out now. and can't seem to find any programs that i might be able to install on phone where i can send a remote signal from the pc to do a self destruct.

sprint looked at phone and turns out the port is broken. how the heck does a cable get damaged inside that it can ruin the phone port?

hope the phone didn't ruin my own cables.

I amhaving the same problem was it windows 7 by any chance? I have an 8330 and i used the old software first the 4.? i kinda got it to work but as you said it would show on the battery iconthat it was on.well i took mine to USCC and they cleaned my port he saidwareware it was dirty I came home tried it and it wouldnt recognize it at all, after being on the phone for 1 and a half hours with tech support he decided that i should get the updated software for the bb I drove 30 miles to get it he said he didnt have a cd burner on his computer i had to run to slaples and get a usb flash drive i got that done came home and loaded that. It wouldnt recognize the bb i couldnt even use the bb software for anything a screen popped up thay saidplease make sure your bb device is hooked up. we went back to USCC the tech there said he couldnt see any damage to the port he wiped my phone clean and tried to get it to work no way was it going to work.He called blackberry told them my warrenty was still in effect there was no damage to the handheld and it was an internal issue, they said they would send me a box to send my phone in to return it and i would recieve it on Tue i should ship it back and they would repair it that it will cost between 40-180 in the mean time USCC would give me a loaner but of course not a blackberry not even a smartphone. MY husband was irate and told them we were not leaving till we got a way to get my laptop on line( we have 4 days left at this point to return the laptop if i dont like it) we agreed that they would loan me a wireless modem well the tech that wiped my phone that was running the origional os now has the v4.5.0.138 it doesnt seem to operate correctly my ringtones are so quiet i miss calls i have no option to set different ringtones and it wont recognize my media card but the charger port works when connected to the laptop

yes. i loaded windows 7. i had the pre-release on my pc for awhile and had no effect on my phone though. but that don't mean something wasn't changed between the pre-release and the official version.

your phone seems to be working though. as you can charge yours and have it recognized on pc. i didn't have that luck. i ended up with a replacement phone. sprint said the port was broken but i don't see any difference between the two phones. but i have a working phone now.

the software was crappy though. as it took 2 hours AFTER a battery pull before the phone would work. i've reloaded the software to something more current. ALL IS WELL NOW.

the software version you are running is crappy. 4.5.175 is the latest i think that works better. there is software version 5.0 that would be the preferable choice though. MAJOR OVERHAUL and much better software. and the procedure is REALLY REALLY easy.

somewhere on 2 sights i have posted the instructions to make the procedure as quick as possible. although, i wouldn't do a backup from 4.5. everything is going to be different and you could end up with glitches. START OFF FROM SCRATCH. you'll love it.

if your interested. here is the link on how to do the procedure. and i'll guide you to the best software to install. so don't be afraid to give a holler.

The mini-usb ports on the Curve and other Blackberry devices are a weak point in the device. The port has too much "give" and a ham-handed user can break it pretty easily (Not that the OP is ham-handed, but a lot of Blackberry users at my office are )
With the new phones moving to Micro-usb, thees types of problems should be much less frequent.

the problem with that theory though. is i had the phone for almost a year. and not one problem untill it was plugged into a pc with a fresh windows 7 install.

and as the second post mentioned. also a problem after win7 connection. from what i'm gathering.

over on blackberryforums. 2 threads were started with the same problem. there would appear to be a problem with win7 frying our phones. i don't know if it's a freak thing yet. but i'm defenitly watching for other complaints.

Windows 7 is not frying your phones.
There are literally thousands of users connecting Blackberry Devices to Windows 7 boxes. I have around 15-20 at our office using Vista and 7 just fine.
The problem is in the mini usb ports.
They are fragile, and can quite easily get broken.

forgot to mention that a external dvd rom drive was also used on that computer. and it no longer works also.

i'm not disclaiming the theory of weak usb ports getting broken. but two devices on one computer. too coincidental. spcially with seperate cables being used.
