Default 5.0 OS's are in the carrier's hands?

Huh?

5.0 OS's are in the carrier's hands - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

I don't get it, how or why would the carriers justify withholding this update after all the trouble we've had with this unit already?

It appears that VZW is working on certifying the Tour and the Tour2 to have OS 5.0 at the same time, which means that they're tied together in testing. They want to hammer out as many bugs as they can, and they don't want to have another bad release.

You've already said they've had a lot of problems, imagine the fallout if they released a buggy OS 5.0 on top of it?

That said, if you're anxious, go for the latest leak, 5.0.0.419, I've found it to be worth the upgrade and very stable.

Maybe they would like to thoroughly test it first?

It took AT&T -the original carrier for the 8700 - over one year to release an update. The carriers test on their own schedules and don't share. Yes, it is frustrating to us, the paying customer. And there is NOTHING you can do about it.

Heh, and they have to train all those CSRs in Costa Rica, Mumbia, Singapore and Valdosta, Georgia how to handle all the support calls.

I can't wait! I want a Tour 2 though (WiFi in the past on my 8320s and then on my 8900 SPOILED me!)

Didn't know there was a call centre in Singapore. Care to back that up with facts?

Although I was being sarcastic, I know all the US carriers do outsource a great number of their support calls to various places. ATT had one near Manila for a while, if not still.

I use to work for VZ a few years back, and they really started pushing more and more off shore.. All because it was cheaper.

back to the subject, yes OS 5.0 is with the carriers, just like it was with OS 4.5 a year and a half ago. We can survive off the leaks. At least those with new phones!

Really can't wait for the Tour2 got a Tour1 from work and it's really an amazing device, although I can't see upgrading to another Blackberry without Wi-Fi

Consider yourself warned - that attitude will help you find the door from this site.

Have you even tried searching? How about searching the Beta You Than Me forum, found here on this site. I'll even get you started:
