Hey y'all!

So I've had my Curve for a couple days now (upgraded from Razr V3) and, after swapping over all my contacts, pictures, etc., I'm now at the point of installing all my ringtones. I'm a fanatic about ringtones because I hate diving for the phone every time it rings and having to check Caller ID; it's so much easier to know at the first musical note who is calling me and whether or not I'm interested!

Anyways, the problem is that I cannot get any of them to work. And it's driving me nuts. I've read the books, sought out and read online tutorials and read through the FAQ's on this forum - still no dice. I somehow managed to get my default ringtone to work for calls and text messages, but that's it. The custom notifications are not working and, when people I've already set up with custom notifications call me, it just rings with the default.

Help???

(To ease the process of assistance, I can tell you that I've already tried all the basic ways of doing this such as Address Book>Name>Menu>Add Custom Phone Tune. I've even tried creating an entirely new notification profile complete with exceptions and ringtone selections for a handful of contacts...but to no avail. I'm pretty tech savvy so I'm at a loss as to why I can't make this work.)

What file format are your ringtones? Do you have them on device memory or a media card?

Are any of these contacts that are not using the ringtone you set up a myFaves contact as well? If so, read on...

So, the myFaves contact and your Address Book contact can both have custom ringtones set up. The problem is there is a conflict between the two: which one does the Blackberry play? Follow these steps:

1. Go to the contact in your address book that you want to set a custom ringtone for and Edit it.
2. Press the Menu key and select Add Custom Ring Tone.
3. Select Mute as the custom ringtone.
4. Exit out of the Address Book making sure to Save the changes.
5. Go to the myFaves contact of the person you just set the Address Book Custom Ring Tone to Mute for.
6. Press the Menu key and select Edit Contact.
7. Change the Ringtone to the one you want to play.
8. Exit back to the main screen making sure to Save the settings.
9. Perform a battery pull on your device with it powered on.
10. Test.

If you skip #9 it won't work. That should fix it for you.

If the contact is not a myFaves contact then I don't know. :P

daphne - They are mostly mp3 format and are in their native format as downloaded from t-mobiledotcom

Dawg - Thanks for the link for that workaround; I'll try that if Dave's suggestion doesn't work.

Edited to add: Yes, they were actually ALL MyFaves contacts, so it seems that Dave's suggestion might be the likely culprit!

It worked ! It worked! Thank you thank you. all my other custom ringtones worked but they weren't my faves contact.It was driving me crazy! Thanks for taking the time to write answer!!
