If you look on www.blackberry.com/maps from your 8800 you will notice at the bottom, "BlackBerry Maps is not available on the AT&T network". So much for Cingular including it

I loaded a LBS.alx file I found here, and version 1.1.27 loaded without a hitch on my unlocked 8800. GPS works, but I've not tested the navigation feature. I will tomorrow when I get to Birmingham. I can confirm that there is no search feature, so it looks like I will have to get the addresses from Google Maps and copy and paste the address into BB Maps.

So I got telenav working on my 8800, works great, better than my $900 TomTom. Couple of questions though:

1) Anyone get the voice directions working through a BT headset? Is it possible?
2) Anyone notice a drop out on voice calls when using the program?

I too am having the same problem on my 8800. Lots of langs but no map options to load. Mine is branded by Cingular.

When I manually try to load the new LBS.alx file is says "No additional applications designed for your device were found".

Make real sure that your LBS.alx file is not a .txt file.
Sometimes windows hides the extension.
right click on the file and go to properties and you should be able to see the file name with extension.
You need to make sure you take off the .txt file..

when you do, you will see MAPS..

I can see file extensions and did verify that it's LBX.alx and not LBS.alx.txt. Thanks for the suggestion though. Still mapless. :(

I need to make sure the handheld updated to the new version. I'm thinking that is where the issue is and I have no idea how to check. I'm a noob so any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Ok- I am having a problem renaming the file. I name it LBS.alx, but it remains a text document. So technically it is still named LBS.alx.txt. How do I get rid of that final .txt extension?

Nevermind-- I figured out how to do it. I had to:
1. On the Tools menu in My Computer or Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
2. Click the View tab.
3. Clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box.

That worked.

hi... i don't see the BlackBerry Maps install option either.

the LBS.alx file is named correctly. i had to 'unblock' it in the properties screen because it said something about how it came from another computer. still, BB maps does not show up. ideas?

nevermind... got it. i think it had to do with the 'blocked' file option in the properties. i had to fix this issue BEFORE i moved it into the correct directory. not sure why...

I got this to work just fine and its great. While I would *love* voice prompts a la TeleNav - the fact that I can get Navigation at no extra cost is great!

Help! I've been trying to load the maps and followed the instructions as best I could but still no maps.
I updated the Desktop Manager to 4.2.1.8 Service Pack 1
My firmware is already 4.2.1.72
The instructions say to goto C:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\loader files\ --- My directory doesn't have from the "\shared" it only has the following directories: Apploader, Modem Drivers, RIMDeviceManager, USB Drivers. Where to I put the alx file?
when I try to force load it through the AppLoader it say no programs for this device. Any help is appreciated.

You missed the install on step 2.

Got it downloaded and everything. But no maps show up in BB maps. It says searching for satelites but doesnt do anything. Have i missed a post or something? It would make sense you have to dl the maps.
The GPS is working and i am getting a read on my coordinates

The file name is lbs.alx but in properties it's shown as a text file. How do I remove the .txt which shows when I try to change the program that opens the file? Thank you.
