Sorry, this was not enabled via a service book. It is enabled in the ROM somewhere. VZW has no reason not to offer this. I would join a petiton with you guys even though Im Sprint. VZW customers deserve this awesome feature also!

This will probably not work. I would gather that Sprint has some sort of exclusivity deal with RIM. There is likely some serious licensing issues to be worked out.

actually, there are telenav services for many phones across many providers. Some are on Verizon, such as the XV6700 and other devices as well.

The REAL problem is that Verizon would rather sell THEIR OWN nav services (VZNavigator?), then provide a decent GPS solution included

Yes, that's exactly it...The recognize that if they make certain features available that it will take away from their earning potential. It's backwards thinking...yes, there will be many people who will use their own 3rd part apps, but other, less knowledgeable people will use verizon's...

so Verizon thinks they are protecting their bottom line, when in actuality, they are hurting it...

I forgot all about VZNavigator. Since they offer that service, I highly doubt that VZW will ever allow the use of 3rd Party GPS.

Same story as the v710. They locked OBEX so that people would be forced to buy ringtones and wallpaper via GetItNow.

THAT'S THE POINT!! They don't allow for VZ navigator on the 8703e...if they allow for VZ navigator, then any third party GPS app will work too...

WTF is Verizon waiting for? Why don't they put out VZNavigator for BlackBerrys if theyre not going to let 3rd parties do anything?

The Sprint's 8703e is fully enabled, why would VZ limit this?

Sprint's 8703e is great (I have one sitting next to my vzw 8703e on my desk).. too bad Sprint sucks. All carriers suck for one reason or another. I have no problem with them making money off of me but seriously .. you need 3 cell phones to win. I've had enough of all of them.

No GPS (pisses me off but I don't *need* it) and $30/mo higher than Sprint but I get service everywhere and for the most part call quality seems to be fine. I doubt VZW will have free incoming for quite some time, they seem to be much better at profit than any others. If they ever get that I'll smile when I pay my $200/mo phone bill rather than snort. All told though it's not a bad expense all things considered. Under $200 with tether & unlimited data, 4000 minutes & 500 text, insurance, free to business line, and more i'm sure.

Sprint.. I had no service ANYWHERE. They told me there was 95% coverage here. Hah! It was unreal, I was in digital roam the entire time I had this 8703e active IF I had service at all. Not only that, when I cancelled (I swapped from 7520/nextel) the day after I activated they told me to return it to a store. I went to a store & they said oh, only a corp store. Drove 30 miles to the big store & they told me, oh you have to mail it back to Sprint. WTF? Still waiting on their return packaging. Still wondering what they'll end up billing me for my 1 day of usage (last I heard $130).

Anyone want a cheap 8703e for Sprint?

I agree - totally ridiculous...what's sad is they only offer tracking on a kid's phone. I wanted it for my teen daughter, but she doesn't want to be caught carrying around a "baby" phone, and I don't blame her.

Default 8703e Location-Based Reminders

Naggie - the location-based reminder app - has just released a version for the 8703e. Sprint/Nextel only, though. As the chief developer of Naggie, I've been trying to lobby Verizon to open up their GPS. Us developers could write a whole lot more cool software if all Verizon just opened up their GPS!
