After reading most of the many threads on the new BIS, I'm trying to understand the differences between BES 1.8 and 2.0, please help. Below, I've listed what I understand to be the Pros and Cons of each, if you know of any others, please let me know.

BIS 1.8
Pros
• Polling of up to 10 Accts
• Access to BB email from both BB and PC
• Ability to manage BB emails using multiple folders
• BB Emails and Attachments available forever
• Auto Bcc capability

Cons
• Only one From address
• Size limit on BB email acct

BIS 2.0
Pros
• Polling of up to 10 Pop Accts
•. One Way (BB to provider) Integration with Yahoo and IMAP inbox, Sent and Delete folders
• Multiple Spoofed From address
• No size limit on BB acct
• Auto Bcc capability

Cons
• BB Emails stored only on BB after 30 days
• No access to attachments after 30 days
• Cannot access BB emails from PC
• No ability to use Folders to manage any email
• limit for messages forwarded to the carrier.blackberry.net is 5 mb.

Have I got all this correct?

One other difference..... on BIS 2.0 the limit for messages forwarded to the carrier.blackberry.net is 5 mb.

The integration with Yahoo/Imap is one way only - from the BB to to the service. Desktop moves are not replicated on the BB unlike BES.

Lets hope they add folder support. I'm sure at some point in the near future we'll all be forced to 2.0

I guess my next question is "How can we prevent Cingular from foisting this CRIPPLED "upgrade" on us until all the current capabilities are included. I don't think either of my ISPs provide IMAP capabilities and I distrust Yahoo something fierce. And thirty day access to attachments is ridiculous. As is the 5Mb limit on other emails.

After reading the specs on BIS 2.0 it seems as though the ability to have an Auto BCC set for all outgoing BlackBerry emails has been removed.

Is this correct? Is the Auto BCC feature gone?

I believe that in the beta version and the announcement for the T-mo roll out it was, but that there was such a protest that it was put back in before it went operational.

Some one correct me if I'm wrong and I'll add this.

That would be exceptional. Removing Auto BCC is a game-killer for me; right now I'm using it to maintain a persistent archive of all my emails.

Can someone confirm that it is still available in BIS 2.0?

Sorry for my ignorance here but the BIS that I am using has not changed. Was this an automatic upgrade of the service? When I was on Nextel the BIS they provided actually worked like a standard web based e-mail program, ie it did not just forward e-mails but stored them too. Not that I used it for that. I am on Verizon now.

hi i have a question, if you delete your 2.0 client, and recreate it, you lose the ability to reintegrate the email that u had with your old user ID, it says "name already taken" yet you have just deleted it.

any thoughts on this?

rta53 - if you sign into your BIS you'll havr the option to upgrade. It's up to you if you want to or not

Dreadrus - i'd call your carrier so they can sort it out - you should be able to re-use your old BIS address

I am sure this will only be temporary. Sooner or later those who did not upgrade will be required to and will wake up to find it done.

For some reason, I have the feeling it is going to be made available sooner than we think. I hope they also give teh option to upgrade. I got to use teh T Mobile 2.0 for 14 days so I had a quick test run with it. I liked certain part and disliked others. One thing that I wonder about with cingular is if the 5 meg will be the same and I hope they do not Cingular does charge more so they should be giving the users their money's worth.

If when you login to you BIS from the internet, you have an inbox, you're carrier is running BIS 1.8. If not they have upgraded to BIS 2.0

a few new things:

on 1.8 if you deleted an item, and in messages>options>emailreconcilation>deleteon, mailbox wins, mailbox and handheld, you could run "reconcile now" to delete stuff from the bis 1.8 inbox.

now on 2.0, if you do this, it can actually delete stuff out of the inbox of certain mail programs since it is now direct to the inbox of how your geting your mail. my testing:

hotmail: reconcile now, and delete on "handheld and mailbox" sends the item to the trash in hotmail

sympatico: reconcile now, deletes the mail right out of the mailbox permenantly

gmail: reconcile now, does nothing.

You are probobly correct, that is the "one way integration with IMAP" mentioned in the original post.
