i've always said if your PHONE needs antivirus software then something is severely wrong. i had a million other quips while reading this thread but you guys mostly covered them. it still boggles my mind when people call up saying all of their data is mysteriously gone. the bloody thing says "WARNING LAST ATTEMPT. ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED!" i can't rant on that enough. and like so many others said, if you back up your device with desktop manager, wheres the problem? even better if you're on a bes, wheres the problem? everything comes back down to the device once activating again on the bes. ::rant off

JC, I do believe your avatar is speaking directly to the Treo fans on page 1 of this thread. It just struck me that both you and Mr. Bean seem to be expressing the same idea about Treos.

It sucks that it happened to you but it's your own fault.

I've only gotten to 5 failures and that was because I was driving and entering the password without looking at the BB. Other than that it's one failure due to big fingers.

I'm glad to learn it does this. My contacts include extremely private numbers and addresses. For example, I bet a lot of bad people would to have the number of the prosecutor friend of mine who works Federal cases. Considering the people he builds cases against he could be killed.

I also want to protect my porn. =)

I guess the only way a person could lose all their data is by not syncing with their pc or making backups. Isn't that the purpose of a device like the BB and that's to sync with data on your pc? If something happened and I lost all the data on my BB it would be no big deal. I would just sync with my pc and everything is back again. Am I missing something?

Backup everyday. Maybe the next big thing would be an OTA backup and it'll be sent to a different email address of our choice--y'know, the one that's not integrated on our BBs.

Edit: For BIS, yes... sorry.

I actually never backup my bb. I'm on BES and I only have a few custom ringers installed, which are on my pc anyhow.

Little confused.....if the device is "wiped", can't you restore it with a backup? I mean the information is gone from the actual DEVICE, but you go home, hook up and restore, right? Or is that not possible? Cause THAT would suck.

Restore is definitely possible. That's the standard procedure in fact. Wipe, install new software, restore from backup. Gives you a fresh, clean device with that minty clean, just-from-the-factory status.
