BlackBerry Messenger
Please Login to Remove!
I have a Cingular 7290 and upgraded to the newest software from T-mobile last night. I now have a new application, BlackBerry Messenger, on my device. This is RIM software included with the handheld upgrade - NOT T-mobile stuff.
Apparently it is only for blackberry-to-blackberry, but it seems pretty cool. You not only get the checkmark with "D", but it also turns to "R" for read!! (just like Cingular Interactive's "ipages" or Interative Messaging on the old 950s and 957s). There's also an option to "PING" the user. It causes the other blackberry to vibrate real short and quick - similar to the BUZZ feature on Yahoo messenger.
A couple of tips:
-Hit the symbol key twice to see all the little emoticons you can use
-Go to Pictures and click on a picture, select "Send to Messenger Contact..." to send to another BB Messenger user.

It's interested, I have a 7100t, upgraded my firmware, I helped my friend upgrade his 7100g with the same firmware, and he's got the BlackBerry Messenger, but I don't maybe there's some sort of servce book that Cingular sends down that TMobile isn't doing, any ideas?

Don't think it's a service book issue. The application appears even before the radio turns on and connects to the network.
The only difference I can think of is you had to delete/rename the vendor file to upgrade the Cingular handheld with Tmo code. Maybe try the same for upgrading a tmo device with tmo code?

In the list of programs to install, there's no BlackBerry Messenger option. My friend send me a pin through the BlackBerry Messenger and it said to go to http://www.blackberry.com/messenger if I didn't have it, of course that site says it's a beta site, maybe Cingular is testing this and didn't think anyone would install this newer firmware on their devices, etc.

Have your friend add me to his "messenger" list: 2024A5F2
I still don't think it's a Cingular thing; this is a RIM/BlackBerry thing.

Each carrier's reps always flip out on me when they find out that I've put another carrier's firmware on their devices, they always give me the lecture that if we want to be able to call into their support desk for help, we need to be running the exact version of their firmware. Verizon was the most pain about it, while Cingular service sucks in general so it's hard to get anything good from them, and TMobile seems to be the nicest. My friend left on vacation so I'll find out more when he returns in a week.
My firmware flash is all done, and still no BlackBerry Messenger. The other 4 TMobile's we've upgraded, none of them have this BlackBerry Messenger, 2 7100t's, and 2 7290's, while this lonad 7100g seems to have it.

Here are the 3 modules installed for messenger:
-net_rim_bb_smileys_default
-net_rim_bb_qm_peer
-net_rim_bb_peer_resournce_en
You'll find them in Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files\7290-v4.0.2.32_P1.8.0.137\Java.
The files are there...there is obviously something other than the vendor file that lets Application Loader know "hey...this is a tmobile device and they don't want this app installed".
FYI...you can send photos saved in your photo album to other messenger users. COOL!

I've got those 3 files in my 7100 directory for the firmware (assuming you meant "net_rim_bb_qm_peer_resource_en.cod") instead of what you listed above "net_rim_bb_peer_resournce_en"
I've tried changing themes and don't see it, could the icon be hidden? Do you know how to unhide the icon that's been hidden?

If there are hidden icons, hold down the ALT key and click the wheel on the main screen. You'll have an option to "View All".
You can also go to Options->Applications and see if it's listed. I show:
BlackBerry Messenger 1.0.84

Aren't these just PIN messages wrapped in a different GUI?

Yes, in an "IM chat" environment with read receipts (which is a nice feature over regular PIN messaging).
You can also set yourself to available or unavailable and leave a comment (similar to all the popular IM programs) like "In a meeting...", etc.

Nothing hidden, and I don't have this application on my list.

What version of Desktop Manager are you using? The latest is 4.0.1.10 (Apr 27, 2005). I noticed that's not the version T-Mobile has posted from their site.

I have no other suggestions unless there is a way to manually load the three module files using JavaLoader.
