Default Browsing CNN.COM on my users' Handhelds

Please Login to Remove!

Okay tested on various handhelds that's in my BES (Pearl, Curve , etc..) but each time I access CNN.COM I get forwarded to this mobile website: CNN

that displays that error!

MDS Service is enabled...this site has been working before but now it gives me this error..

I tried using my Nokia phone using our home WiFi and it works! But using my curve even when using the same Wifi connection- it fails and gives the same error...

clear the cache already several times..

what could be wrong?

UPDATE:

On an older model there was still a choice of the 3 browsers...a colleague was kind enough to test this for us..

Blackberry Browser - we got the error above
Internet Browser - was able to go to the website/cnn.com
We did not test on the 3rd browser though (it's the service porvider's browser, right?)...

I believe these 3 browsers are using different gateways when browsing, right?

Try changing the Browser Options (Options -> Browser Configuration) and change Browser Identification from BlackBerry to FireFox. This will probably cause CNN to deliver the desktop version of the browser. Be warned, this move disables access to mobile web pages, unless you've enabled a separate icon for that on your unit.

i dont have firefox on the choices, i have IE and Netscape tho' and changing it to either showed the same error message :(

i think its with the routing not the emulation (browser identity)

thanks!

Can you access the site when you're logged into your BES directly?

Does your company use a proxy server located in asia?

UPDATE:

I finally found where to change the Browser Config (not just the Emulation)- LOL!

From the BB Curve:
When I went in to OPTIONS > Advanced Options > Browser then Default Browser Config

It was just there all along!

Anyway changing it to Internet Browser enabled me to access the CNN mobile website BUT

That doesnt solve the problem which is- why is it, that if I simply use the Blackberry Browser as the default browser config it wont come in...

Ill test on my BES whether I can browse the website..ill update you guys..

Can you access the URL above for the Asia-based CNN Mobile website from your intranet? CNN.com does both browser and IP detection, so it will detect the browser agent (BlackBerry) and redirect to the appropriate mobile site based on your IP address location. I would be curious if by using the Internet Browser if you're served with the US/Canada-based site (m.cnn.com).

Guys just to update, browsing the website on BES was fine, I mean the normal website and not the mobile website.

There was no resolution found for this and what we did was just pushed an IT policy to force users to use Internet Browser instead of the Blackberry Browser.

Weird..

@jibi from our Intranet umm CNN website is okay..the mobile site we didnt try...

Really was no point in testing if you can get to the full site on the BES as that's not the site you're trying to get to on the BlackBerry.

You need to test the URL your BlackBerry is trying to get to.

But if you're happy for all your traffic to go via the service providor then I suppose you're happy!?

hi skyman, yeah, i suppose that would do fine- for now.

with the way things are going with our BES, it seems that browsing CNN is the least of our problems- so for now, that would be cool..

PS: my other "more pressing" issue--> HERE
