Any hybrid OS out there that combines the newer versions of 5.0 with the keyboard lock functionality of the older versions? (i.e. "* + send" to unlock the keyboard)?

Nothing I have found. Maybe OS6 will help if it becomes available for the 9700

If you set a password, keyboard lock works (It's now called password lock if you want to set the left convenience key to do it)...

Have you tried setting it up, and then disabling the password without then reverting the convenience key setting?
