Default How to Delete the address book on an 8800

Please Login to Remove!

Normally I would research this but "The big boss" needs to have his address book wiped "now" since he has duplicated 2800 contacts. Is there a quick way to delete the address book so i can import his from his laptop again?
I know very little but I have learned about the different "books" a blackberry has and i am pretty sure deleting one of those would do it. Just don't know which one.

Thanks!

Options / Security / General Security
Click the menu button and select "Wipe Handheld"

** THIS WILL WIPE OUT ALL CUSTOMER DATA BUT WILL NOT TOUCH THE APPLICATIONS OR O/S **

I really do not want to wipe the handheld. It took me about 8 hours and three devices to get it up and running. I've had the worst luck with this thing. What about delete a service book and then pushing it back to the device? I had to do this with a tech from RIM just to get this damn thing setup. I've called Cingular, and they keep telling me it's a "one at a time" delete process for contacts.
In any case, if I do wipe the phone, what exactly is lost? Are all user settings lost? is there anyway to back up all the settings and get them back on the phone?
Also if you were to tell your boss that he had to go in and delete 4,000 individual contacts... how would you do it?

You can use Desktop Manager to wipe just the address book.

- Install Desktop Manager on his PC
- On his BB, go into the Address Book options and set the wireless reconcile to 'No'
- Connect the BB to the PC and start Desktop Manager
- Click on Backup/Restore then click the Advanced button (a window with 2 panes will open).
- On the right side, you will see the databases on the device.
- Click on Address Book (should show a count of 2800 - if that's what he has) in the list and then click the Clear button.
- Close the Advanced window and click the Synchronize icon
- Check the box for 'Synronize organizer data'
- Click the Configuration tab and then the Configure Synch button
- Make sure Address Book has a check next to it and click OK
- Click Synchronize Now on the Synronize tab
- Now go back to the device and set the Wireless Sync options in the Address Book back to 'Yes'

Should work, I walked thru the steps on my own device as I was typing this.....

EDIT: I should mention that before you resync from his laptop that his laptop is cleaned up....

This looks very promising, now if I can just get a hold of his laptop and BB. I will follow these steps exactly and let you know the outcome.

Worked like a charm! Everything went very smoothly as I followed your directions exactly. I don't know if this is already a tip or anything but with the phone companies telling me to just wipe it, I'd say this is some interesting time saving information.

Sticky Maybe?...

Thanks again!!
