It probably is a stepping stone to 4.2
4.2 may need some more work, and cingular wanted to updates its customers with the most updated version of 4.1
They also released there version of the pearl, so they made the software version universal.

Default I would imagine

that 4.2 won't come out until after the 8800 is released. Pure speculation, of of course, but since a lot of the benefits from the 8800 come with the new OS, is there a reason why Cingular would cannibalize its sales of a new product by letting a lot of 8700 owners gain a decent chunk of the new features?

I can't imagine this OS is going to provide that much more enhanced features than the previous one. The previous version was 4.1.xxxxx and this one is still 4.1.xxxxx so I highly doubt there will be huge enhancements!

Who knows, maybe they will include a killer version of Brickbreaker in this latest release!!!!

A dot alx for ZEN? Would I be able to run this Cingular build and still be able to use the ZEN theme? I hope so. I'm using the Bharti OS (4.1.0.351) at the moment.

Hey i was on .174 now i am on .529 and i would think they did enough bug fixes and enhancements to make this upgrade worth it. My upgrade is almost done. I wonder if they changed anything major, or just minor tweaks. We will have to see. The Device Initialization sure is taking a while.

WAIT! That's impossible! I've heard it here, over and over and over again! Cingular NEVER releases a new release of the OS first, they TOTALLY suck, they're ALWAYS behind the other carriers, NO WAY!

(Sorry, couldn't resist!) And I know it wasn't you making those whines, Snowskier - thanks for the info!
