The newer version doesnt hack away at the battery as the earlier releases did. I only use mine for data and no phone and have noticed a huge difference in keeping logged on all day.

I just install this and it works That is a big plus for me, I now can IM anytime, anywhere. I will watch the battery drain issue over the next 15 days and see how it goes. I am currently on a 7290, not sure if that is any barely, other than the tech notes in yak-on said the 7100s were a real probably because the backlight was always on when yak-on was connected and caused the biggest power drain.

Update:

After a day, I haven't noticed any big battery drain, but BB is still on 2 bars as it was when I installed it. I did notice that it locked up my BB after about 4-5 messages when I set it up as recommend, but I switched the TLS back to the default of "proxy" from "handheld" and chatted with my wife for about 30 minutes without any issues. I found it to be just as responsive as using AIM on a PC. I also took/made a few short calls while logged on and didn't loose the connect that I could tell.

Mitch

Just wanted to report that after 4 days I did notice a bigger drain on the battery. I recharged yesterday and will see how it goes.

I also sent an email to Yak-On explain that the TLS setting for me worked better as Proxy than handheld and asked about bigger font size.

To my surprise I got a reply within an hour or so. This is one of the first times I have got a response from an email addy on a website, most seem to just go into the bit bucket.

Matter of interest, what was their response regarding the TLS setting?

Default Yak On! Beta 1.06.6

We are pleased to announce ICQ support is now ready for beta testing. You can download the beta from http://www.yak-on.com/beta/

Updates included in beta 1.06.6 include:

* ICQ protocol support
* Local aliases for buddy's. You can now set aliases for any buddy in your buddy list. These aliases reside on your BlackBerry only (They are not sent to the IM server at this time).
* Significant improvements to MSN including a fix for a sign on failure for buddy lists where buddies in the list existed in more than one group in the list. Previously this would cause Yak On! To not load the buddy list and cause the MSN sign on to fail.
* Fix for AIM sign on screen name issue. There was a bug where the sign on name for AIM had to be in all lower case with no spaces or AIM would fail to sign on. This has been fixed and now any combination of upper,lower case, and spaces can be used in the screen name.

Known issues

* The ICQ logo does not show properly in an ICQ chat. A fix for this pending
* Away status is not yet sent for ICQ logins, a fix for this is pending

Expired beta licenses have been reset, if you previously have beta tested Yak On! and your demo has expired, it has been reset in our license database and you can again download and test the new features in Yak On!

Thanks,
The Softcentral Team

We discovered an issue with OS 4.1 and Yak On!, and the new local alias and email conversation history feature. We have coded a fix for this and it is now available in the new production version 1.10. You can download that from http://www.yak-on.com/

Thanks,
The Softcentral Team

Download Yak On! to try out the new features.

New features:

* ICQ support
* Local alias for buddies in your buddy list, aliases are stored on your BlackBerry
* Email conversation histories from within Yak On! to any email address. This feature includes address book integration. Your contact names are loaded into a list field and when you choose one, the email to: address is populated with their email address. If they have more than one, you can choose.
* Several MSN bug fixes
* Several bug fixes related to OS 4.1

Expired trial licenses have been reset, everyone can download version 1.10 and try out the new features.

Thanks,
The Softcentral Team

Default Display name

I've been using Yak-On and love it, I just wanted to know if there's a way to change our display name, instead of having our email address display.

Blue w/ blue means they're not away and not idle.
Grey w/ an o means they're away but not idle.
Grey w/ a - means they're idle and away.

And blue (not bold) with a - means they're idle but not away.
