Default password problem (BES)

Please Login to Remove!

Strange one here! I have a user who has a 8310 and he has somehow set his device so that rather than ***** when inserting his password to unlock the device ( we are on a BES) he is getting numbers. In the past he has managed to sort this out but cannot remember how. I have not come across this before so any help out there?

After a certain number of incorrect password attempts, the device will stop suppressing the password echo so the user can see what they are typing.

Are you saying that the password echo isn't suppressed on the user's first attempt?

Normally after x amount of goes it asks you to type the work Blackberry so like you say it checks yoiu are typing correctly etc, however this problem is that the users thinks they have inadvertantly pressed a sequence of keys that converts the **** to actual numbers so each time they try to type their password it is typing numbers, as if the key is stuck down but isnt!

Again... this is by design.
After x amount of incorrect password attempts, the BlackBerry will echo your password as you type it, in clear text. It will no longer mask with ****.
Ask the user how many attempts they are on. It should say 6/10 or 8/10 or 2/10... something like that.)

I suspect the user has simply entered their password incorrectly too many times.

This could be user error, or possibly a damaged keyboard.
Moisture would certainly make the keyboard behave this way.

Could it be that either

- the user is asked to type the PIN of the SIM card (which consists of numbers only) or

- the user has enabled NUM-LOCK (by pressing Shift and Alt at the same time)

Tell him to pull the battery - any num/caps lock will go away.
