Default Do all themes slow the Bold down?

Please Login to Remove!

Does installing themes slow the Bold down or is this only the case for animated themes?

Thanks!

Does that include the themes that came with the unit that are carrier specific?

i would say those have hopefully been optimized to reduce this as little as possible.

best thing to do imho is to just try out a theme, you should be able to tell within 5mins of loading the theme if it slows down or if its bearable

Yes, although the slow down is more minor on the BOLD due to its higher CPU clock speed than the Curve and 8700. I tend to not use themes, and also remove BB Messenger and PTT (if present) since it helps to reduce the occassional studdering in UI responsiveness. Though unlike with the 8310, 8300, and 8700, I couldn't detect any UI shuddering or slowdowns from BB Messenger constantly running in the background on the BOLD so the BOLD is better than that regard.

I find that when you first apply themes it takes the BB a bit to cache them into memory. After your device has been running for a day you have opened all the menus and seen most screens and it has them cached for fast retrieval.

Maybe its just me but I always notice all themes slow at first while the system caches their pictures. Because that is all it is, text over top of an image. Apply a theme then bring up a context menu by hitting the BB button, then do it again. The first time almost takes 4+ seconds the next time its instant. its all about caching it for the first time. I would be curious to know if there is a size limit for the cache or if it just keeps going to hold everything. Because if there is a size limit and the theme is very high res pictures it could be causing the cache to dump old stuff for new stuff but then the old stuff need to regenerate in the cache.

Caspan may be onto something.

FWIW, the slow downs that I am referring to are little 0.5 second hestitations in the UI that may happen once or twice a day (if that). It was a lot more frequent on the 8700c, 8300c, and 8310c. Most people don't even notice them on the Curves. I barely notice it on the Bold. I am very pleased with the Bold in that regard. It's a fantastic device.
