Default 2 questions on BB 7230 OS

Please Login to Remove!

I have an older blackberry model 7230 with the 4.0.0.185 operating system software, and there are a couple of useful things that I feel like I may be able to do on this but I can't find the option, and I'm wondering if anybody can help me:

1. Is there any way to password-protect specific memos? There are some memos I have with sensitive information, and I don't want them to be accessible to anybody who fools around with my device. On the other hand I don't want to enter a password every time I use the device.

2. Is there any way to see the total number of emails on my device? The number in the upper left-hand corner is just the number of unread emails. I want the full number. It's weird that I can find the number of contacts in my address book but not the number of emails...

Overall, I feel like this is the sort of thing that RIM should notice and provide in a future upgrade. However, I get the feeling that there will be no future OS upgrades on the 7230. Is that true? If so, it's a bit upsetting that they stop providing updates only a year and a half into the life of the product (compare to, say, MS Windows which provides updates for at least 3 years).

::sneeze::

1. No
2. No

What do you mean they stop providing future updates? You can put 4.0 on a 7230 right?

Oh - is 4.0 the software used on all of the BB's? I had the impression that newer BB's had better software.

I'm sorry to hear that I can't do those two things. They seem kind of important. Is there any way to submit suggestions to RIM?

Some models can only use v3.6. Yes, there is v4.1 for the models with 64MB, and it may be available to older BBs. The 7230 has 16MB of memory so there is obviously a limitation there.

Check out www.blackberry.com and see if there is a Contact Us section.

Actually, NJBlackBerry - I just found out a way to figure out the total number of messages on my device! In the Desktop Client I go to "Backup/Restore" and then click on "Advanced" and I can see all the databases on the right. The size of the messages database is, I believe, the number of messages I have!

And I discovered in 4.1 that they actually show you the database sizes on the BB. And the number of entries in the DB. Not sure that I care, but it's there.

Are you on an insurance plan through your carrier? Because if so, I'd just turn it in and get a replacement. The 7230 is such an old model that you'll probably get an upgrade for the normal cost of your deductible - 7290 would be my guess. That's what I got for my 7230 about a year ago...
