Default OS 1.0.3.1997 May Be Rolling Out

Please Login to Remove!

Word on the (internet) street is 1.0.3.1997 is starting to make an appearance on some PlayBooks. Might just be an update for select (developer/demo) devices, so I'm not sure if everyone will see this one or not.

No word yet what might be different.

If it corrects the bridge slowness that appeared for me with 1868 it will be big for me, if it comes to me.

I haven't seen it yet either. Maybe in the morning, or perhaps this will be another very limited roll-out like one of the previous releases.

Now the consensus is this release was never meant for public consumption. Drat. Dang. Shucks.

Would be nice if Android apps start working.

I don't know how to read you? Did you get the update?

I got an email alert from RIM yesterday, but the update availability isn't showing on my PlayBook yet. And I too lazy at the moment to try a forced an update.

EDIT: Ahh. I get it. Confirmed. Next 24 to 48 hours.

Well, a one hit wonder posted last Saturday that a new version was going to roll out in 24-48 hours. May have gotten caught up in the Doomsday scenarios.

Yesterday I got a "new update available email" from RIM. It hasn't hit my PlayBook yet. I even did a forced update again and ended up with 1868. Other than that, I know nothing.

If the e-mail you are referring to is the same one everyone else is talking about, the e-mail is two weeks too late. It is referring to the current OS (1868) as the available update. The e-mail should highlight BBM and video chat as new features.

Ok. That explains things. I thought it was strange that the email announced video chat, BBM, etc. as new features. Wow. I hate to say it, but RIM really is looking amateurish. No worries, though. It's an adventure.

Yeah, RIM is having a rough go at it. I value their devices, but this hasn't been the smoothest journey so far. But, like you, I'm curious to see where this leads.

a bit harsh don't you think? i was just relaying what a rim support rep told me. I too am still waiting for the update. i guess the lesson here is that we cannot trust what rim support reps say. you might want to direct your frustration in a more appropriate way.

Harsh?

Heard it from a friend who heard from a friend does not equal confirmed, even if the friend works for RIM in some (unstated) capacity.

Not harsh at all.

you are over reaching here. check my post. a rim support rep confirmed directly to me on the release. clearly they were mistaken, or it was pulled back because of qa issues.

Still wasn't a harsh comment. I've seen harsh. That wasn't it.

What the rep did was got you off the phone. I presume successfully. Reps typically do not know anything about release schedules. No intention to be harsh - but you did not post back here for a week, so it was accurate.
