Not true - I could have pre-ordered right at the locations yesterday but chose not to. In fact, at BestBuy, I could have left just $50 on the pre-order as opposed to paying upfront in total online.

Yeah, the BB website says you can pre-order at a store with $50 deposit.

I just was at Best Buy to pre-order a 32GB version. I was told I can only pre-order a 16GB at the store. To pre-order the 32GB or 64GB you have to do it online.

Hmmm different stores have different policy?

FutureShop says in their order e-mail

"Delivery
As soon as the tracking info is updated in our shipping partner's system, we'll send you an email with a ship date for the item(s) you ordered. Your card(s) won't be charged until we've shipped the product to you."

No charge on your card until they ship it. I like :D
