Oh Im sorry, unless you meant staying under month-to-month after your contract is up?

Default Verizon Contract Cancel

I actually got lucky with Verizon. I had Verizon and moved to a new apartment that was squarely between 2 towers. The result: I never had more than 3 of 5 bars and couldn't stay on a call for more than 5 mins without it dropping because the phone didn't know which tower to roam off of.

Well I lived with this for a year until I finally got fed up and called Customer Service. They dispatched techs to my area and came back with the same findings and told me that because of the poor coverage it was acceptable to break the contract (which I still had over a year left) with no EFT's (Early Termination Fee). So I did and ported to AT&T. By far the best customer service experience I had ever had with them.

The lesson here is that if you are having service issues in an area they mark as having service, call up and tell them you don't get service there. They should look into it and come back to you with hopefully the same response I got.

Whenever I have gone to a new carrier, I haven't minded an initial two year contract in order to pay less per month, but after that I do what I can to avoid extending it.

Back in December I upgraded from the Sidekick3 to the Curve with T-Mobile and was faced with two options. My current contract would be up in December of 08. A couple months before that, I will be moving to Japan. If I wanted to get a discount on my Curve, I would have to extend my contract by two years. In doing so, I would just have to cancel my contract when I moved to Japan anyway at a cost of $200 per line. Getting the blackberry for cheaper would have been nice, but the discount they were offering me was only about $150. It just made more sense to pay full price and not have to later pay $400 to cancel my contract rather than get $150 off the phone and later have to pay $400.

On average, how much to carriers usually charge extra per month for people who sign up without a contract? I've never looked into it.

most carriers will do 1 year contracts, never saw a no contract deal since i been wireless for over 11 years =/ the thing is they only advertise the cheapest price which is with a 2 year or some contries 3 year contract.
