Default Blaackberry Question -Purchasing

Please Login to Remove!

My boss travels out of the country (Asia).

He wants the new Blackberry Storm. Is this possible?

If not, what are my options?

When he travels there, he buys a sim card and puts it in his phone. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance for yhour reply.

Yes, the Storm can be used internationally.

I always thought the international part would be without BB data. Phone-only while traveling. No?

That's AT&T international data. On the Storm you need to use a GSM SIM that's pre-paid, I believe. No data plans for those, unless the Storm does something special through Verizon and the GSM carrier used.

Verizon has a SIM card they can provision for international data. At least it works this way with the 8830 devices. I've set up a handful of users for email access while leaving the states. It has worked for data. I would imaging the Storm would work the same way.

Excellent! That's the way it SHOULD be handled, but these days what should be and what actually happens often don't coincide. Is this an expensive option with Verizon? AT&T gets an additional $20 per month, but they say you must sign up for a one year hitch with the international data, making it really $240/year. Supposedly some folks have been able to cancel after only 6 months, but you can't count on that. The deal is supposed to be for a full year. $20/month for international data, with the ability to add or cancel monthly, would be the sweetest deal ever.

Verizon has a "pay as you go" option I believe. For the users that I've set up, I insert the SIM, call Verizon to have them provision it for international use, which is a $20 extra per month. When the user returns, I remove the card and call Verizon and tell them to remove the international data and return to the previous BES provisioning.

This is all on a government contract, so there are not ETF's or anything along those lines. I am not sure how this would work on a personal contract. The OP, if interested, should contact Verizon to be certain.
