Default Curve to Bold

Please Login to Remove!

I am thinking about up grading my Nextel Curve to a Sprint 9650 Bold. I want a Blackberry that will do international calling and was told by Sprint that this phone will do this. Also they said all my info and apps. will transfer from the Curve to the Bold. Will they transfer using Blackberry desktop software? Any problems with the 9650 Bold, or anything I should be aware of?

Thanks for any info

What does "Blackberry that will do international calling" mean to you?

Do you mean that it will call international phone numbers while you (and the phone) are in the US?

Or do you mean that it will work as a phone while you (and the phone) are in another country?

As to transferring, all of your data will transfer. Most of your apps will transfer. Some may not be compatible.

The 8350i I have now works great while in the US does calls to other countries and receives calls from other countries. But what it won't do is work in others countries. I was in Greece last year but had no phone I could use. Sprint said my wifes pearl would work. It did not. I am going to Italy and like to have a Blackberry that works there.

The 8350i is an iDen device and only works on other iDen networks, of which there are very few. The 9650 is both CDMA (Sprint) and GSM and can be used just about any where in the world.

Yep.

You will just need to get a SIM card from wherever you travel in order to get service in those countries.

Yes I know the 8350I is on the IDEN network. Thats why it won't work international (meaning the phone won't work outside of the US). Thats why I was looking at the 9650 Bold. Sprint said it will work world wide. The other post on this thread states I need different sim cards??? For different countries?

Now for the second question. (is that allowed on the same post or will the Blackberry Forum police get me).

I have Blackberry Desktop on my computer. Can I transfer all my info and files plus Antair Spam Filter app to the bold 9650?
Is this something I will just have to find out on my on?

Thanks for the help

You need a SIM card in order to use the GSM/Global part of the device. (On Sprint, you will be using the CDMA part which does not use SIM cards.)

Sprint no longer has an international plan (from what I understand), so you will need to get a SIM card that covers the area(s) in which you will be traveling. If the SIM card you get does have an international plan, then you will need different ones for those countries.

I answered the part about the transferring of the data.
"As to transferring, all of your data will transfer. Most of your apps will transfer. Some may not be compatible."

You will need to ask the specific app developer if the "Antair Spam Filter" (assuming that's a paid app) can be transferred to a different device.

Not true. Sprint changed the Internation to "pay as go" because most people don't need the unlimited buy-up. The 9630 or Bold is packaged with a SIM that works.

If you only need voice, and want a local number, both devices are unlocked and you can use any local pre-paid SIM. My wife does this in Hong Kong and it is very convenient.

Thanks Southwestcomm. That's what I thought but was not sure. It's great when you get an answer from someone who has done what you asked. Not just makes up an answer.

Lose the attitude please.
Thank you.

I guess Sprint's international is just like every other carrier. Pay as you go.
You pay a per minute charge.

Default Re: Curve to Bold

Well I went to Italy and Corsica (French island near Italy) with my Verizon bold. Called Verizon had them set up international call plan which was pay as you use plan. But the data plan cost $65 for one month. Work great! Verizon sent me an Email on what prefix number to use when calling other countries. Also same sim card. There are prepaid sim cards at phone stores there but since I was already setup I did not need them.

Just wanted correct info before I went. Now I know.
