Default I'm desperate/Curve 8310: Icons missing after updating to OS 4.5

Please Login to Remove!

Hi from Greece,

This forum is my last solution. You can't imagine what I've been through.

I have a BB Curve 8310. For as long as I had OS 4.2, BB worked perfectly. I was able to browse on the web and everything, I had set up a GMAIL and a YAHOO account, I was able to receive my e-mails, etc.

Then I upgraded it myself (via Desktop Manager) to OS 4.5.
Suddenly I found out that several icons were missing (browser, e-mail settings, BB help, Yahoo messenger, Google talk and probably few others don't really remember).

STEPS TAKEN TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM
1) Contacted my provider's technical support a million times but it seems that there is no BB expert there.

2) Asked them to sent me the Service Book a million times.

3) "Register Now" many times.

4) Did the wiping + scrubbing thing also a million times.

5) Left the Phone to WIND Hellas to check its functions and do the upgrading properly. Response: no functional problem with the phone + we did the upgrading process properly.

6) Left the phone to another provider (Vodafone) and paid to check its function + problems and do the updating properly. Response: no functional problem with the phone + upgrading from previous provider was correct.

7) Deleted Browser from Applications and then undeleted it.

8) Restarted the BB a million times, taking out the battery + SIM and turning it on again to see what happens.

9) Tried unsuccessfully to downgrade to OS 4.2 by
uninstalling Desktop Manager 4.7 > downloading/installing Desktop Manager 4.2. > deleting the file "vendor.xml". Unfortunately I was not able to downgrade it to 4.2.

10) In the meantime, every time a technician was asking me to do the WIPING thing I was trying to explain them that they need to help me DISABLE the CONTENT PROTECTION setting which always leads to the time-consuming SCRUBBING process (BB off for at least 40 minutes). Nobody could help me with this. My "Content Protection" setting is still enabled with a red padlock there.

I don't know what else to do. I haven't used my BB for 2 months now, though I keep paying WIND Hellas the extra EUR15.00 per month for the Blackberry Services.

Please help me. I'm desperate!
Thank you so much
Best regards
Evdoxia

If the contant protection is on, you are covered under an IT policy of sorts. To confirm this, go top options>security>firewall. See if there is a red padlock there.

Where did you get the device from? And was it ever used for YOUR work?

Once we get these taken care of, ill have more steps for you

If it is enabled, there was an IT Policy on it.

Search for adding a blank IT policy onto the blackberry if you don't have the password.

If you do know it, disable the firewall and then do a wipe.

If you hit menu when you are on the firewall screen, you need to hit disable. It usually asks for a password. Try and disable it. In the meantime, ill fire up my opera mini and find you the link for the blank IT policy

Another thing I thought of was to log onto ur BIS site and send books from there. That usually fixes mine.

How to:
Google "your carrier name Bis... IE. For me I type "at&t bis"

There should be a site as most carriers have a web based site

Once you. Do that, log-in with your Blackberry address and password. ( It is usually something like "whatever@carrier.blackberry.net")

Once you log-in, there is an option for service books on the left. Click on that.

You will see a button to send service books. DONT HIT IT YET.

Go over to your berry, go to options>advanced>service books.

Hit menu and delete on everything EXCEPT "provisioning". Once they all re deleted, then hit the button on your computer. Wait for a few minutes. This will refresh your email and most BBspecific books.

Once that is done, pull your battery, and then go to options>advanced>HRT and try and register.

Once its done, remember to check your hidden icons and such for the icons you are missing

Here is the IT policy link if the above post doesn't work.

www.blackberryforums.com/rim-software/67224-remove-policy.html

Follow these directions exactly to be safe.

Unfortunately for me, I've already done this.
I've found with the help of BB technician my web-based account and sent Service Book many times to myself.

Still no hope

I have news.

I pressed the Menu button again to see that Show All is checked and by mistake selected Switch application.

And there it is...the browser icon. I selected it and I get the following message:

Your device does not currently have any Browser Configuration Service Book Entries. Please contact your service provider to enable the browser on your device.

Just contacted my provider, they cant enable the browser. This cant be done independently. It goes with the service book packet

looks like you will need to dowgrade back to OS 4.2 and wait till your phone provider makes a new OS with 4.5 or 4.7

call directly into RIM go to BlackBerry
they have support for people of individual devices

SOLUTION FOUND!

Download JL_Cmder and perform "reset to factory".
Everything is in place now, internet works properly and all policies have been removed.
My icons are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
