Default 2 virtual serial ports

For anyone who has gotten the modem working, how many serial ports do you show?

I just did a clean install of XP sp2 and clean install of Desktop 4.1 and I'm showing 2 RIM virtual serial ports. I was able to get the modem to respond once about a year ago and that was it. I reloaded XP and everything hoping that I would finally get the wireless modem to work.

No such luck. I've read through just about every thread here on the modem. I just can't ever get it to respond.

Currently I have the following

COM1: The real serial port on this computer
COM4: Agere AC97 modem
COM5: RIM Virtual Serial port
COM6: RIM Virtual Serial port

Standard modem is listed as COM5 but I get no responses trying to run diagnostics on it.

You wont get the modem to work until you have 4.1 handheld software installed and that is not available yet, my installation recognizes the modem and I too have 2 RIM serial ports, com4 and com5. So i am in the same boat as you with my 7250 from Verizon. I am convinced as soon as the new software is released we will finally be able to connect. Up until the 4.1 desktop was released I was unable to detect the modem at all even after finding the drivers in the common files area.

I had it work before... Back in December or so. Then I upgraded the desktop software and it stopped working and never has worked since.
