Default 7100T as a modem... using bluetooth??

Please Login to Remove!

I just spent about 2 hours on the phone with Tmobile trying to configure my 7100T as a modem device through bluetooth. My computer is linked with my blackberry via bluetooth and I had the modem set up as instructed by tech support.

Then, after the guy researches a bit, he tells me that he doesn't think the 7100 supports this over bluetooth, only over USB. The 72xx on the other hand does support it. His research was done by means of google and the internet, not tmobile.

Anyone know how to, or if possible, connecting your computer to the internet through the 7100 using bluetooth?

Thanks.

Save yourself a lot of time. You can not use your BlackBerry as a Bluetooth modem. And the 7290 doesn't support it either. Today, Bluetooth is for audio/wireless headsets, and some brand new keyboards. For further details, please see the dedicated Bluetooth discussion forum here.

Hmm. Lots to FUD about Bluetooth security at the moment, and there's my BlackBerry connected to my Intranet. I think not allowing data connections of any kind over Bluetooth to a Blackberry is a security issue.

Keep thinking. Do a Google search on "bluejacking" or "bluesnarfing".

Also check out something called AES and 3DES. Companies using BES have their data streams encrypted. No Bluetooth for us, thank you.

Data related bluetooth is coming soon, but unavailable at this time.
Security from 30 feet range ? WHat is someone going to follow your every foot steps to bluejack you ? Plus BT isn't very fast, so unless you stay parked for a while and are discovarable, well...

i don't think that you can use bluetooth for anything other than relaying the audio to and from the speaker and microphone, respectively...check out:

speed is WAY faster than I ever expected...superior to any 56k ISPs...

OK oK ok...
You can use Bluetooth for anything you want to use it for. I have my BB start my coffe pot in the AM. The truth is I just dont want to tell you all how to utilize the Bluetooth functions.

NJBlackberry (a Super moderator) states "You can not use your BlackBerry as a Bluetooth modem"...Ok I believe him. Being a trusted member of this forum I take his info a reliable. If I was to still doubt him I could do a search and see countless threads about this very same issue.

Ah...My first cup of the day...French Roast

nice try...

at being funny. As soon as I figure out the passkey for one of these printers, I will see if I can print using it. I'm just curious as to why they would make them bluetooth compatiable, if you cant use it. I wasn't saying that anyone was wrong...

Bluetooth printing has been available for sometime. Check out "Thinprint" which allows for Bluetooth printing.

The blackberries aren't fully bluetooth enable. they only enable hands free/headset linking.

This gets beat to death way too much. Its deliberately disabled. if anyone figures a way around it, RIM would lose too many customers, so it may even be hardware limited.

With DM 4.1 and handheld 4.1 (on the 8700 and coming soon to other devices) you will be able to sync via BT.
