Smile 8900 Battery Life

Please Login to Remove!

I get bad battery life out of my 8900 curve with every bluetooth, wifi, and other apps turned off. I bought a secondary charger for my office and a back-up battery as well.

What do you guys think bout 8900's battery life? Any advises?

I can't see your profile. Which OS variant are you using? I thought the more current versions addressed this. You may also consider getting an external charger and extra battery. My bro battery improved by simply disabling bluetooth where I see you are still having issues.

Please define "bad battery".

How do you use the device on a daily basis - voice, Internet, SMS, etc.?

Make sure you close all apps and data connections, not just exit out.

My battery life has been stellar so far. The first day I had it I was literally on the phone for about 3 hours, heavy e-mail and browser usage through wifi, and a ton of pictures with flash taken. I was still far over half battery remaining.

I have been very happy so far.

I use a little bluetooth, heavy texting/BBM/GTalk, email, and camera on a daily basis and I only use one notch out of five by the end of the day.

I am currently using v4.6.1.250 (platform 4.2.0113).

talktime/day: 1hr (at the most)
sms: 30-60
gmail: no
wifi: barely (maybe 1 min or 2 at the most)
bluetooth: barely

I now have 2 batteries and an extra charger at office, but I still feel like i could get more battery out of a blackberry. Please help.

How long will the battery last before it is completely dead? Is it less than a day?

I can have mine charge all night: wake up at 8 and the battery be down by 12 if I am almost constantly using it. I got mine about a month ago. This doesnt seem normal, but it does have a 5.5hr battery life and I was used to 9hrs.

I used to have this app called MyTimes on my BB. Now that I have removed it yesterday. My BB is down to 90% with light usage since this morning at 8. It's 3 pm now in Beijing.

I think i have a shot at not switching to my backup battery today. Fingers crossed.

This has been mentioned a few times and it seems to be fixing the issue.
Go To Options/Screen Keyboard and bring down the Backlight Brightness to 10% or even 0.
You will suddenly se that the battery life has improved. Atleast 2/3 days of mormal use once fully charged!
Hope this helps.....

I have done this to my phone already. It helped. I put it down to I think 40% I have a privacy screen on mine so it has to be a bit brighter in my case.

The problem is usually constant radio use. The app you removed was probably updating via RSS feed and maybe not even able to do that. I once left an app for the Ryder Cup golf on mine. The Ryder Cup ended but the app was trying to update the scores anyway. Battery was dying fast. It's usually something you did and aren't aware of anymore.

I have a Curve 8900 (obviously) and its been acting strange for the past couple of days. When I first bought it, I obviously changed the OS because it was draining my battery by just looking at the phone. I upgraded to 4.6.1.231 (353) since after reading a lot it was the one that convinced me the most. It has been acting perfectly, battery lasted a great deal, but for the last 3 days it has been getting drained awfully fast. Not only that, but also every now and then the phone would get quite heated in the back (where the battery is of course), even while left alone and sometimes when I put it to be charged, it wont start charging and the battery will begin to heat itself up as well, and in order to get it to charge itself I'd have to reboot it.

In the last few days, the only thing I've done was install a MeBoy game of Pokemon, which I've played for like... 30 minutes total, maybe, and check some web sites through Wi-Fi. I would've thought it was the game, but this has been happening since before I got it.

Today, for example, the phone was left charging over night (about 6 hours total), and I got to work, and played Pokemon for like 5 minutes, that took the battery down like 20%, and I stopped because I felt it heating itself, so I left it alone there in my desk. When I checked on it like 30 minutes later, it was still relatively heated and battery was at 55%. I put it in stand by (locked it, which I hadn't done cause I forgot) and it started to cool itself and didn't drop anymore. Then I used it to listen to some music while I did a couple things, about 20 minutes, and dropped to like 30%-ish.

What can be causing this? Should I get rid of the game to see if its making it do this? But if it is, why would a simple game do this to the phone? Any ideas or tips would be very appreciated.
