Default OS6 for the 9550?

Please Login to Remove!

Why is the 9550 the red-headed stepchild of the BlackBerry world? Why won't RIM show us some OS6 love?

I'm one of those crazy fools who actually likes SurePress; I'd love to have a better browser on my Storm 2...

My apologies if this has been covered in another thread!

I doubt that it has the horsepower to run OS6

If I remember the cut off was 512 MB of file free, the 9550 only has 256 MB.

Plus If I remember the 9550 is already EoL for VZW. Along with the 9650 oddly enough.

9700 is inline for an OS6 Lite version from what I have heard.

Don't know why the 9550 isn't on the list, unless it has been designated as "end of life". There is a Storm 3 rumored to be on the way with OS6, but who knows when that will hit the carriers.

I thought about this some more tonight and that's mainly due to being a rainy one outside

I think RIM is done with the storm line, it was/is a blackberry interface with a touch screen and not as revolutionary as they wanted or expected it to be. I think, and from the rumors I have heard here and there, that the next storm is not going to be a blackberry with a touch screen. Rather a multimedia based device and somewhere I heard even running a different OS. Maybe to compete closer to the Droid and Iphone devices if they can build an OS with more bells and whistles? But then there is the Torch so I could be way out of left field with that theory.

I see RIM putting OS6 on its beloved 9700 because there are so many out there, and its on "the list" along with the other 512mb devices.

Another thing to think of is that the 9700 has the 624Mhz processor. From what I have read the CDMA devices use the chipset with the 500'ish MHZ processor(cant remember speed). Maybe the 9700 can make up for the lack of 512mb memory with its processor speed to run OS6? 9650 with a slower processor has the 512mb memory so it is in for OS6...Oh no Storm 2 has slower processor(500'ish) and only 256mb memory...no go.

Guys just my random thoughts on this rainy nights, sorry for the rambling

Y'know, I really love my Storm 2. I really like SurePress a lot and think it is a marvelous technological achievement... it's sad to see it fall out of favor so quickly--it hasn't even been out on the streets for a year!

The only gripe I have about the Storm 2 is a big fat glaring one: the browser is just plain awful. Opera makes it only slightly better; I would have loved to see them improve the browser before it was EOL'd.

Maybe in the end the Storm series never really recovered from the abysmal launch of the grossly-incomplete, "just-get-it-the-hell-out-the-door-already" Storm 1. I had one of those and hated it. I guess SurePress was never able to shake off that bad stigma, or maybe it is just so different that it was too far afield for most folks to wrap their heads around.

Wow, maybe this post should've gone into the 9500/9550 forums... Sorry.

Default Storm touchscreen

I got pretty good with SurePress - but it took a long time.
My thought was that they could have improved it a lot with a new on-screen keyboard layout - but they never did. In any case (ok here comes the big bad moderator) it is nowhere as good as iPhone/Android virtual keyboards. Whether that is suretype, the layout, software or a combination. But I never found it easy to use despite getting somewhat skilled with it. Nor have I met anyone in person who enjoyed it. Instead of OS6 they should have fixed that, the browser (for as many platforms as possible), got rid of chronic reboots and generally improved software quality. Seems these things would keep the base happy.

The touchscreen verision of OS6 was significantly larger than the non-touch version. It left very little room for anything else.
