Hey everyone. Ok so this may be long but i've been fighting with this for the past few days.
Purchased an unlocked 8310, I have two phones a work one and personal one. Work is on AT&T and personal is on T-Mobile. BOTH have blackberry data plans (AT&T is on a pearl 8100, T-Mobile is on pearl 8220 flip and both work perfectly)
I purchase an 8310, plug in my tmobile SIM and while SMS, MMS and WAP all work fine, I get nothing in the Host Routing Table (HRT) and only 5 items in service books which appear to be auto generated by the OS, not downloaded from the service. The indicator is lower-cased stating 'edge' meaning no connectivity with blackberry service.
If I plug in my AT&T SIM, i get connection and upper-case edge but a text stating my IMEI is an invalid number and to resend a valid number or short-code, both HRT and Service Books download correctly.
Contact t-mobile and work with both them, RIM support and t-mobiles 'unsupported devices support team' and no one was able to get it working and both were scratching their heads.
When they unregistered the 8220, it was still able to get my blackberry email but if i plug up my 8310, ran diagnostics and hit register many times in the HRT still no good. Blackberry AND T-Mobile see the phone provisioned on their side and both said it should work (the 8310 downloads the 8320 service books it seems).
So here is what I know and what I've done sofar.
Tested 8310 on AT&T network, it works.
Tried it on T-Mobile and everything works but service books / host routing table downloads and any app that requires the blackberry network.
- "Registered now" via HRT
- Verified TCP settings
- Verified network firewall settings
- Verified PIN and IMEI is registered via BIS and reset svc books
- Cleared handheld with jl_commander and reinstalled latest AT&T OS
- Battery Pull & resets many times
- Left phone on, SIM inserted over a 2 day span hitting 'register now' in hrt every once in a while
- Verified phone is correctly unlocked w/RIM support
- Spoken with both RIM and T-Mobile support, both are extremely stumped.
Since I love a challenge, i figured I will fight with this for a while longer. Is there some way to access communication logs on the device? From there i might be able to determine if the phone is the issue or the carrier.
I decided on the 8310 for GPS. My 8220 has WiFi for UMA but I never use it and would rather have GPS ability, especially when i'm on the boat in the lakes.
Thanks everyone

I'd love to but the extra $300 just isn't in the budget right now. Only paid $200 for the unlocked 8310, its like $575 for the 8900 and my contract renewal isn't for another year or so. :(

Works fine on the 8310 after updating bis with at&t, still get nowhere from tmobile.
I do get the following on the blackberry event logs
a net.rim.hrtRT - CCIG 0x1
a net.rim.hrtRT - ERRs 0x0
E net.rim.hrtRT - REik (i'm assuming this is the error causing my prob)
a net.rim.hrtRT - XV5r 0x4
I have a ticket number with blackberry support, going to try and give them a call later.

Well, spoke with T-Mobile and RIM again. Sounds like the 'Service Marker' on my account needs to be '15' and its '11.' I didn't get much clarification of what that means or what it is but it seems they can't change it. So now they are having me get my SIM card replaced. Prob going to go get it done this friday, will let everyone know then.

It would seem the REik error is being caused on the blackberry side, about a day after I updated BIS the REik error came back and I lost the upper-case edge. Well, this is annoying.. :/
