Default Blackberry Plugin for Visual Studio V1.2 not working

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,
i've installed Blackberry Plugin for Visual Studio V1.2.0. I know it installed correctly because i can see the config options in Tools --> Options --> Blacberry. Where i can see simulator 9000 v4.6.0.212. But when i run a web app and go to "browse with" there is no Blackberry option. Also in Tools --> Device Emulator Manager there is no Blackberry simulator.

What could have went wrong?
Is there any way to enable manually the "browse with" option and the emulator itself?

My config is
Windows Vista Home Premium SP2
Visual Studio 2008 Team System SP1

Any help will be highly appreciated

No man, and i can't find any answer on the net. The official document with issues from the Blackberry site doesn't event mention something remotely similar. I still hope someone can lend us a hand in here.

Have you had any luck?

hi!!
I posted the problem in another forum. this is the answer:

" Hi There,
The BlackBerry simulator does not show up in the Tools --> Device Emulator Manager. That section is only for Windows Mobile devices.
All Simulators for BlackBerry development are in the Tools --> Options --> BlackBerry section."

are you trying to do an widget application or a mds application? cos The MDS Runtime technology and its tooling is now End of Life.

In fact i'm just doing a traditional web application (.aspx) and i want to make it compatible with some mobile platforms. Since most modern mobile browsers support nearly all web standards i just want to see how would it look like on a BB screen. In Tools --> Options --> Blackberry i can see the plugin indeed but it can't be fired from there... nor does it appear on the "browse with" aspx contextual menu... Any idea?

I think you want to switch to the new Blackberry web widgets SDK.

Check here for the "Web Development" tools.

I just want to be able to test the look and feel of my applications on my ASP.NET apps on the BB Browser. Is that what the Blackberry Widget SDK is for?

Thanks

In that case, just download the simulator you want to test on and run it in stand-alone mode (with MDS to simulate the network).

I have installed the 5.0 version of the emulators but they didn't seem to be working. For starters there are no way to access the application from the start menu... i manually run it from "C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Smartphone Simulators 5.0.0\5.0.0.337 (8530)\fledgelauncher.exe" and a blackberry device appears on my screen but there is nothing that i can do with it, not even the OS is loaded
what could be going wrong?

Try running 9700.bat instead

Also make sure you have the correct JDK/JRE level installed - it won't run otherwise.

I believe thet 5.0 requires JDK 1.6

The .bat file that i have available is 8530.bat, i run it and it shows the same Non-functional BB Emulator. I have the newest JDK (i'm a developer). So i'm getting a little tired of trying to test my web app for the BB environment. I'll keep digging...

"the blackberry device appears on my screen..."

OK, so what is on the display of the device?

Absolutely nothing... well yes, a label with the word "Blackberry" and below a bar that i suppose is a progress bar... whose movement is inexistent

As a general rule, I would say that none of the BB dev tools work well on Vista, even those that are not "end-of-life".

I'm sure others would disagree and perhaps give you some better advice on how to make it work.

Personally, I gave up after a few months of heartache and loaded up a different box with XP - I now use this one as my BB dev system.

I'll give it a try on a XP VM. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all.

Default Using Visual Studio 2008

Does anyone really have this working? I've sturggled several days with trying to get Hello World to work. The Blackberry browser does not even start while the other browsers work just fine. Any help greatly appreciated.

Tnx.
