Default February and Still No OEM Leather Cases?

Please Login to Remove!

How much longer will we have to wait? I'm really surprised that we have not seen the leather holster and leather pouch cases from RIM by now. The 8700 was in users hands on November 23rd, 2005.

As a temporary solution to the plastic holster, just how close of a fit is the 7290 leather case? Can people using that case comment?

well up until this week you couldn't even order the plastic holster if you needed extras or replacements. So I'd expect a bit more wait time to get the leather one in.

I see all these posts about leather cases and pouches and I'm curious if I'm the only one who loves the OEM plastic case. I find it to be great: slim, and unobtrusive, easy to get the BB in and out, offers good protection. I don't understand what's not to like...

Scratches, slipping off, exposure to the elements, shall I go on. We could do this alphabetically if youd like.

I can see the "exposure to elements" part, if you routinely walk in the rain without some sort of a coat on, but what's this about scratches and slipping off? The screen of the BB is facing in, when it's in the case, so how would it get scratched? The case itself doesn't scratch it...

I have been experiencing more holster drop outs recently; upon close inspection of the holster, I noticed a stress fracture in the retaining tab. This weakens the hold on the blackberry, and causes drop out. I need something better than the plastic OEM holster!

Exactly-- the plastic holster goes through a swift break-in period and right to a worn-out phase. The little tabs wear down as do the sides of the BlackBerry they snap into. Mine is a replacement only 2 weeks old and already it takes a bare minumim force to extract it from the holster.

The RIM leather cases are form fitting and exactly what I want to carry the device, are a minimal design, and provide the power control functionality. Other cases seem to lack utility by adding bulk, play-though ideas, or strange features and crummy belt clips.

The holtster will become worn very quickly and it will be looser, your BB will fall, talk to me about scratches when it does. The constant going in and ut of the holster will also scratch the sides of it, maybe not the screen if you are awful careful but you will see, mark my words and talk to others here. The only thing safe for a BB is leather type holster case trust me I have gone through many of them including a cordura one. This is not just me there are hundreds of others here that will support this stance. If you are not experiencing these issues you are firtunate and I wish you luck but everyone else has at aone point or another experienced at least one of these issues. After spending the kind of money you spend for one of these devices I will be darned if I am going to have any scratches on it lest alone it be on the screen.

It's a bit cool at first, for sure, since it is such a departure from toehr OEM phone includes, but believe me - do yourself a huge favor and start searching for a LEATHER pouch or case that you like now, and BUY IT. As mentioned, your BB WILL slip and fall out eventually, when you least expect it, guaranteed. And as you watch it bounce and slide across the pavement driveway, you'll be cursing yourself for not protecting it better. Forutnately, it will most likely survive, as they are quite hardy, but it will be scarred, possibly on the screen. Trust me, I am speaking from experience, as are the other posters on this subject.

That's perfect - I felt the same way once when I saw my beloved 8700 flying about three feet from my hip onto the ground and through a shallow puddle! The Russian judge gave it a 9.2!

I took the original plastic OEM holster and added felt to it. The previous devices had an inset screen and you only had to worry about scratching the bling around it. Since the screen on this device comes in direct contact with the holster it will cause tiny abrasions on the screen just from putting it in. After my replacement for the magnetic switch problem, I coated the holster so that my new one wouldn't end up the same. Buy some cheap felt at walmart or wherever. Get some double sided tape and go nuts. It also improves the fit in the holster as it adds friction and bulk. I only coated the part of the holster that comes in contact with the screen, but a friend with a 7290 did the whole thing on his.

Total cost, $3.50 and a lot of left over felt and tape.

...I see them on your site for early-February. How confident are you in a delivery? I'll pre-order if that's not just a guess!

I have pre-ordered this item plus the extended battery and battery door. I have ordered from these guys in the past and they are on the money. Excellent customer service also. And NO I don't work for them or getting paid to give them perks, just acknowledging a reliable accessorries store
