A simple fix (though a bug that blackberry should probably fix) while in key-lock. press and hold the off button (hang up call) until it says its switching off. then cancel it. and it is unlocked. my mute button doesn't really work. it did at first (for half a day) but now it doesn't. I personally think they should make this feature a choice instead of just completely changing the way the phone works. its a real pain in the bum! at least my contract runs out soon. bye bye blackberry. i have fixed my phone far too many times.

Another way I found to unlock the blackberry after it is locked via holding A is either plug it into a charger, or have someone call you and cancel the call. When you plug it in, it automatically unlocks for me. When someone calls me and i hit ignore, it unlocks the device as well. Hope that helps.

Like everyone else stated, after i upgraded to the OS 5.0.0.592 from 4.6 and my mute button stopped working after a week or so. I also think it is an OS issue not the actual button problem.

just my $.05

Default Mute Button Fix - Bold 9000

I solved my broken mute button issue by using a drop of ACF-50 penetrating lubricant to remove the corrosion on the button's contacts. It now works great every time, though I still wish they'd allow users to assign the "unlock from standby" to other key-combos/buttons on OS v5.0.

I made a write up post here: blackberryforums.com/general-9000-series-discussion-bold/231022-fixes-bold-9000-dysfunctional-speakerphone-mute-button.html#post1629492

Hope it helps!

I am experiencing the same problems as mentioned in this thread. My mute button does not work (but since I hear the click, I figure it is a problem with the OS rather than a broken button). My scroll wheel is also kind of broken, there isn't a click when you press. It still works, but it doesn't click.

Since I'm still under warranty for a couple of months, I'm going to send it in and have it repaired. I assume that the wheel issue will be fixed, but if the mute button is a problem with the OS, then I don't think that can be fixed, correct?

It's not the OS. The mute button is a pos. Mine is marginal, many others have posted similar issues. Some guy posted that he could blow into his to make it work. I tried that. It was effective. After I stopped laughing I was able to use the mute button several times before it faded again. Another blow job refreshed it. I've since downgraded to .411 and no longer care about the stupid thing, but .411 has other foibles that might make me change again. Anyone have an opinion on the best pre .411 OS? Post .411 unlocking with the mute button or the off/end button is NOT an option, and the Beiks locking app does not lock the convenience keys.

I just got my Bold9000 but the first thing i noticed is that when you get your phone out of the BB hostler, it autoamticly unlocks, so i basicly dont even lock it anymore, hostler doest it for me (allthrough my LOCK button works fine ).

Just my perspective, regards,

Yes, the holster puts it to sleep automatically (and keypad is disabled) so if you remove it its assumed its because you are going to use the device and it comes out ready to use.
