Default Cleaning .. dropped BB in fish oil.

Please Login to Remove!

I haven't had a lot of luck with BB phones, on my 5th!.

Recently I dropped my BB into a bowl of hot chillie fish oil (a famous Sichuan dish in China)

I have stripped the BB down and washed all the parts, but I need to immerse the mainboard into some solution that will disperse the oil (it still smells bad) and not damage the screen or anything else, of course it may already be destroyed but I want to try.
Any recommendations on a cleaning solution that will disperse Oil (cooking oil) I probably need something that will clean the keypad as well. Appreciate any replies.
Would cleaning alcohol do it (Ethanol) ?

Any liquid + electronic equipment = not a good idea.

yeah, i really wouldn't recommend using any sort of cleaning equipment that is a liquid, it will just make your problem worse.

Ouch...
If it didn't have a smell, you might just have to deal with it...

Cleaning oil off of a circuit board is hell...

Does it power up? Or are you waiting to finish cleaning it first?

ps.
MidnightDraven Any liquid + electronic equipment = not a good idea.

You're quite wrong there, liquids aren't an issue, conductive properties of the minerals IN the liquids are... Pure alcohol dips for cleaning motherboards is a staple of my business... Even pure water is fine for that matter, it's the mineral content in water that conducts, not the water itself...

Oil as a rule is about the best thing you could have dropped it in electronically speaking...

The Ethanol certainly cleaned the oil off, the BB powers up fine and I can backup but the screen is shot.
I will get another screen and give it a go.
For now switched to using an 8900 .. don't like it much the keys are too small, but memory is great.
