Hey 8900ers, Ive got a question or two for you lucky people. I'm looking for peoples thoughts on the 8900 coming from ownership of a 83xx series Curve phone. Their impressions: likes and dislikes.

I'm sorry to be so specific, but I currently own a Curve 8330 and the 8900 is looking like a phone I would love to have. However, that would require switching providers which would be a HUGE pain, AND, its looking like Verizon may be getting its own newer "Curve style" phone soon. So, I'm not really interested in people who own Pearls or 87xx phones and THEN moved to the 8900. That wouldnt give ME the actual comparison I'm looking for.

I am not sure the 8900 will have WIFI like the 8320 that datboi mentioned. In terms of 8330, I agree. You are also dealing with a higher OS.

I wouldn't say it's the same....there is a nice upgrade between the two...I had a 8320 and my wife has a 8320 now...I enjoy the 8900 a lot better than the 8320.

The keyboard is a little odd at first with the groved keys but after you get the feel for them it makes typing a whole lot better. The trackball is much better in my opinion and the standby/lock keys at top are a nice addition. Also software wise it is a step up when it comes to OS 4.5 vs OS 4.6

???Not sure what you are trying to say here but the 8900 DOES have both WiFi and GPS (unlike the 8300 series which has one or the other but not both).

I went from an 8310 to the 8900. I loved the 8310. I absolutely adore the 8900. Faster. Better Screen. Better Camera. Slightly thinner -- fells almost "petite" compared to 8310. Over all, very much worth the upgrade. Everything you like about the 83X0 on steroids. Biggest negative is placement of USB port -- I can live with that.

First time post here....thought this would be a good place to start.

I also went from an 8320 to an 8900. I will never go back. It seems that almoist everything is better with this phone. The screen is much better, the phone is faster, the keyboard is nicer IMHO... I've only had it for about a week, but no problems.

You will not regret movin' up!

My wife still has her 8320 and I've had my 8900 for about a month. The 8900 is superior in the following areas:
1. Screen is way clearer. Not even close. Look at the exact same photo on both and you'll see what I mean.
2. Camera is better, filesizes of photos is double/triple the 8320. Not everyone cares about a phone camera but when combined with the better screen you have quite a difference.
3. I really like the bedside clock feature and so does my wife. She wants one.
4. The GPS is very cool and works really well for me. I don't get lost but using Googlemaps to find points of interest is nice and fast.
5. To be honest I think typing on the 8320 is faster but that may just be me. I liked the flat-on-the-top keys and they're a little farther apart on the 8320.
6. The icons look way better on the 8900, makes the phone look more expensive (and it is!).

for me, the 8900 is a great step up from my old 8310. it's faster, has a much nicer screen, lots more memory, i like the keyboard better - it feels more solid to me, i think it looks better, the camera is better, i like the new press and hold q function to switch to and from vibrate, and i'm discovering cool little things to like every day.

on the negative side, i find the vibrate to be weak so i'm using audible alerts more than i was with the 8310 or the 7290 before it, i'm a little freaked over the battery life. it seems good to me so far, but everyone's complaining so much about it, and i think there's a memory leak somewhere. over the past few days, my memory available went from 108mb to 102 to 90 to 80. i did a battery pull and i'm back to 108mb.

Great feedback everyone! TheBigNewt, I notice you mentioned you like the icons better on the 8900. I guess I'd have to use the phone for a while because as of this moment, I think the icons look horrible. I like colorful icons whereas the icons on the newer BBs seem to be more like outlined transparencies. Yet, I'm sure I could easily get over that

Here are my thoughts on this switch. I went from 8320 to Bold and "back" to 8900.

1. Screen: There is no comparison. The 8900 is superb. Just having that much more screen estate means less scrolling around. And if you read a lot with your BB, this is the one good reason enough to upgrade.
2. Keyboard: One major reason for me to stick with a BB is their keyboard quality. I've never liked the 8320 keyboard. Too clickety and plasticky. Although it works well, I just didn't like the cheap feel. The 8900 is a major improvement, but still a tad too clicky for my liking. Still too noisy for use in a meeting.
3. Speed: It was not a major problem in the old Curve, but so much more joyful to use in the new Curve especially if you are browsing media files.

That is my top three reasons.

I've had the 8900 for 3 weeks now, and find it to be superior to my previous 8310 in every way. I just love this device! Others have already identified the specific areas of differences.
